    Hello All,

I met with a plastic surgeon on Monday and  it looks like my best bet for reconstruction is the tram-flap. I am a little nervous about it as it seems like a BIG surgery and recovery.

I was just wondering how those of you who have gone through this like the results? How bad is the scarring? And how bad/long was the recovery time ? I recovered very quickly from my mastectomy but I know this is much different.

Also, is there anything you  can't do now that you could before? Any hernia people out there?

Any information about this procedure would be greatly appreciated. And thanks a bunch in advance.

hi Cyndi, you probably want to post your question in the Breast Reconstruction board.  also, what kind of tram are you talking about?  a pedicle tram, or a free tram?  the pedicle moves the rectus muscle up to the chest along with the flap.  the free tram uses only a part of the muscle around the blood vessels, and the muscle-sparing free-tram takes the least amount of muscle.  let us know which your are considering...you will get some good feedback on the reconstruction board.  best, Pat
