Bottle 'o Tamoxifen

Beacon! There are so many threads on this forum, and a lot of them are very serious, and pertinent as to what you are trying to find. On THIS thread, these gals ARE very friendly and are going through a lot of SE's themselves. Some SE's are very serious, like mine, where I lost my hearing due to Tamoxifen. But I also realize that I am in the minority of serious SE's with this drug. I started posting here again, because these gals are listening, and are very caring about each other. I can always learn something from these women!
So we don't think we are saying useless things, or even being silly....If we are, and if we make someone else smile, then there is nothing wrong with that. We don't mean to offend or make light of what we are all going through. Your SE's are serious, & if you read back enough pages, you will see a LOT of what we are talking about.
No, hair and nails do not do well with Tamoxifen....but these are usually temporary, and it's your choice as to how much you want to put up with.
OKAY!!!!!!!!! Now, what was I saying? I just want to say girls, everytime I look on this thread, I can smile! You all make a crummy day, happy again! So thank you! xoxoxoxo

Beacon I have to agree with Tink as we do tend to have fun here but every lady here chimes in when they can. I too have very very weak and brittle nails and the hair is horrible. I cannot tell if I am losing any, but it just doesn't seem to want to cooperate and seems so brittle and fried looking on the ends, I have been on Tamox for 1 year now and this is more so these last 3-4 months that I have noticed the hair and nails.......I have been using Biotin for my nails. I do 5000 I think it is mg and I split it up and do 1 pill of 2500 in the morning and the other at night. Only been on it like a month, so nothing as of yet I hear it takes time.....Hope this helps!!
Hi my friend Tink, how are you these days I sure do miss you!

I have great new ladies! I called the pain clinic today (appt for June 15th) to get directions and ask them if they would keep me in mind for a cancellation. Well, the lady faxed me all the intake paperwork and got all the stuff she needed from my BS. I am going tomorrow afternoon at 1:00. Don't have to wait 3 more weeks to take care of this damn boob pain - 5 months is enough. I am so thrilled. Guess it does pay to call ahead and ask questions. I usually do not look forward to going to the doctor but in this case I am going to make an expection. Wish me luck. I will post here when I find out something.
-
Jo I am so happy you got an earlier appt. Keep us posted. Will be thinking about you.
-
Thanks Sherry - I finally feel like I caught a break. You will have to let me know how your appt goes on Friday.
-
Wonderful Jo.
-
Beacon - I started Biotin, 5000mcg when I started Tamoxifen. When my hairdresser heard I would be taking it she recommended the Biotin. I've been on it for seven months and have had no hair thinning and my nails are actually in much better condition than before.
-
Jo I am so thrilled that you got in earlier. I hope everything works out perfectly for you adn yes you will have to post as soon as you get back!
Chabba Did you start taking Biotin right away? Did you ever notice anything hair problems prior to starting Biotin? I am so looking forward to seeing if this is the key to my nails and hair.
What's for dinner gals? You Jo and Chevy boy are the Queens of food and boy am I hungry!
-
Jo ~ so glad your appt got moved up. That is great news !
I am still here dragging my ass girls !! Still no results on pap/biopsy, and went to the onc today for blood work. Feel a bit better ~ still far from good. It is getting depressing but hopefully I will get some sort of answers before I blame good old depression and anxiety.
Think of you all everyday I've been reading-- just feeling like Debbie Downer ~
Hugs girls...
Alicia

June - I started the Biotin right away. Actually, I have fine thick hair that seems if anything to be thicker. Wondered if I was imagining it but my hair dresser says that my normal loss when washing was average but she has noticed that I am shedding less than before. I know it won't work for everyone but it has worked for me--so far anyway.

WE are having fried, simmered pork-chops, with potato wedges & onions, & Marie Callender's corn-bread! AND some of this yogurt I bought from Walmart for dessert tonight! I have plenty, if you gals want to stop by....! xoxoxoxo
I'm sorry Alicia! I'll give you one more day to feel funky, then we'll come drag you outdoors in the sunshine to feel better!
xoxoxoxoxo -
June - I am feeling pretty good now that something is finally going to happen with the sore boob. I am in the mood for absolute junk food.
I did bring enough for everybody. I know June will help me eat this.
Alicia - Hope you get some answers soon. The waiting really sucks. I will help Chevyboy drag you out in the sunshine if you are still feeling funky tomorrow. For today, (((HUGS))) and you are not Debbie Downer - you are Alicia having a down day. It is allowed - we all have them.
-
Jo, I see you were quick at replacing that sausage pizza I stole. DH and I are enjoying it as I type. YUMMM. Thanks.
-
What is Biotin and where do you get it? Did you get the approval of your oncologist to take it? I don't want to interfere with tamoxifen and it's benefits.
Honestly, I wish I could just get information here. I can do without pictures of food and silly jokes. I just want to get information, move forward with my life and put BC behind me. I don't believe in dwelling on what happen to me. I want to be educated, make good decisions with the help of my medical team and live another 30 years, if possible. Not too much to ask.
-
Beacon you really have to ignore the pictures if you don't like them....as for us ladies everyone here enjoys them!!! And I can speak for a lot of the ladies here it helps us all get through this BS and I know we will live HAPPILY for another 30 years or more!!!!!!!!! Jokes and silly pictures!
-
Beacon ~ I think you are in the wrong place.... Maybe try google for the information you are seeking or another thread. We are a nice bunch of ladies just trying to make dealing with BC a bit of fun, we have friendships here and share our information as we know it.
Girls thanks for the support ! Tomorrow will be a better day.
I too take 5000 mgs of biotin each day it is an over the counter supplement for hair and nails that does not effect tamoxifen per my oncologist.

-
Beacon we all want to live another 30 years and then some! sorry if all the silly pics and food bother you but that is how we get through through fun laughter and support... if it bothers you sorry may be you should ask your doctor the questions then! The support from these ladies is invaluable and honestly with all the reasearch I have done attitude is everything... stress feeds cancer... so we laugh and are silly at times.. sorry of it doesnt work for you BUT it works great for us
I wish you all the best!! and hope you get the answers you are looking for as for me I am going to go and check what Jo made for dinner

Tink

Beacon - I have to agree with the other ladies. Perhaps this is not the place for you. You should be able to get the answers you are looking for on Google or check with your oncologist. We all want to live another 30 years and we like the silly pictures and jokes. The fun and laughter help us cope everyday with the stresses of life in general and BC. This group of gals are wonderful, supportive individuals and I resent the fact that you are not being nice to them.
-
I love you gals!!!
AliciaI love Chevyboys attitude......you are close enough to me, that I will personally come and pick your pretty A## up and drag you out myself....I think it would actually be fun hanging with such a fun and beautiful gal. Could work to get me outta my funk!
-
Beacon, sweetie, you really need to lighten up. Cancer is tough enough on all of us. Life is often rough, too. Just breathe. . .
Teklya

I cant really talk about how tamoxifen is affecting me cause I havent started it yet I start June 3. I do know that whenever I have posted a question you gals did your best to help. Keep it up. Everyday day I have several people who ask how I am doing. They also have tons of questions for me. I get so tired sometimes that I just wanna giggle, and you gals sure can make a person giggle, THANKS! So if my comments are silly, so be it. I have gotten answers and never had to insult anyone on any thread to get one. Just because I dont get what I want when I want it doesnt make these gals silly. The great thing about this site is you can make your very own thread and ask that now silly comments or pictures posted please. I wanna know to about my cancer, but I want live life aswell. I sometimes find that if you PM a perso you cant chat in quiet and get the help your asking.
Its good to see so many of you all who were raised in spam. I know now Im not alone, lol. Oh man I may have to make a trip to the store and grb that rectangle can of meats and a blue box of mac n cheese.
I played my monthly BUNCO game tonite. I won the grand prize, yahoo.
Good luck (((((jo)))))). I hope hugging isnt silly, but I dont give a hoot!
Have a good night all!
