Bottle 'o Tamoxifen

Kelly,
Aww... I would NEVER leave you girls... you are my breast friends!!
I waited about 3 weeks after finishing chemo before starting to use the Nioxxin... and then I waited about 4 months before coloring my hair again... I asked my onc about coloring, since I had read somewhere that you need to wait 6 months after finishing chemo before coloring your hair. My onc said: hasn't it been SIX months?? So that was my cue to go ahead and color...
Hope everyone is doing well and keeping warm!

Hi guys. I just took my first step into the bottle of tamoxifen. Only 1824 more pills to go. I priced it at Walgreens and it was $68.00, another pharmacy was $128.00 and so i called Walmart and it was $9.00. I am sure Walmart's brand has snails, shells and puppy dog tails in it too but I'll take it. So far, no side effects! (I know it was just one pill but I put it off cuz I am scared of this stuff). Here's to 4 years and 364 more days.

Brookside......I bought my Tamoxifen at Walmart also! And yes it was only $9, but with my insurance, only $6! THAT meant I would buy something else FUN with the $$$ I saved, ha! I am on my 6th pill...and I keep waiting for side effects....But so far, I feel great...I also buy that Aloe Vera juice from Walmart & mix it with oranje juice, & banana & a little fat-free flavored creamer! I used to have heart-burn, but didn't think I should take Ranitidine with the big T. I started taking some vitamins also! Here is a fun picture for you girls!
Love you all, Jeannette

Jeanette,
LOVE the pic!! Too Cute!!

Jeannette: That pic is adorable!! TCK

Hello All,
All good on the baby front - thanks for asking.
Becky - way to go! don't know anyone who has gobbled down the first pill the first day they got it. I think all of us have eyed the bottle/blister pack.
For everybody - before you try any cosmetic/hair product, et al, you might want to check it out on a very relaible site:
http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/
I have thrown out almost all my cosmetics/creams as they all were 8/10 for cancer producing...and I just couldn't bring myself to continue to use them. One was EXTREMELY expensive boo hoo!!!!!!! and I don't feel good about passing any of it on to anyone else, either. If it is not good enough for me, it is not for anyone elas either. SO SAD
But I do colour my hair - one of my vices. I can't bring myself to even check it out on the site. I too hate the grey so it gets some help ;-)
Heading out tomorrow for a 10 km walk with my BC buddy here. We are good motivators for each other: 5 km to a cafe for coffee; 5 km back (I think that's about 8 miles total). It is supposed to still benice weather +10, so that'll be great.
Take care y'all

Hi Everybody,
Kelly ~ OK girl....we won't boogie over while you're gone. We'll boogie over and party and then go with you to your son's and continue to boogie and party. LOL
Susie~ My DH always gave me the same answer about heat going up the chimney. And if your fireplace doesn't have a fairly powerful blower, that's exactly where lots of the heat will go....BUT... it still feels soooooo warm and cozy and great that it's worth it.
Sullykm~ I don't know anything first hand about the hair thinning but have read lots of comments on here and other threads where in some cases it does grow back.
Caroline~ I'm with you girl on coloring that hair !!!!! It's a must do at all costs. LOL I did type Clairol in there and lots of stuff popped up. I just popped OFF the site. LOL
Take Care Everybody,
Bonnie

Goodmorning Everyone!
It is a rainy morning here in Ca, but I don't mind as that means I get to do a workout indoors!
Caroline ~ Girl!! 8 miles!!!! I am super impressed! I thought my 4 miles was impressive, 8 is supergirl status! Glad baby is doing well!! I just bought some expensive makeup thinking it was good as it has no parabans, soy etc and I looked it up. One of the products I have was in the low range, one medium, and the mascara that I really like is in the high!
I guess the search continues!
Bonnie ~ You are too funny!! I too must color my hair! Like Caroline, I can't bring myself to check it out. Some things are just sacred!
Jeanette ~ Awwwwe that pic is cute! I'm sure you blend all that stuff together in a blender, does it help with your heartburn?
Brookside ~ Welcome to the Tamoxitrain! I get mine at Walgreens and I paid $11.99 as I have their walgreens card. I was looking at going to Walmart and figured the cost in cast gas and the inconvenience did not make it worth it! Target also has it for a good price on their generic plan. Well keep us posted on how you are doing!
Harley ~ We love you too!
Hi Suzie!!
Well I must be off to exercise I am delaying the obvious!
Have a wonderful day!
Kelly
Edited to correct spelling...LOL!

This week I will hae been on Tamoxifen for One year.Other than hotflashes and few more achey joints I am handling it okay.I am determined to beat this disease.

Hi Gals! kcl65.....Yes, I put it all in a little blender, equal orange juice, aloe vera juice from Walmart, a banana & some fat-free flavored creamer! I drink a little glass when I take the big T & a baby aspirin...then again at about noon, then at dinner...And I haven't had to take a heart-burn pill ever since I started it! Aloe Vera will help almost any kind of digestion problems...A gal I used to work with cured her ulcer by drinking it 3 times a day...so I tried it for the same reason! And it worked for us.
I'm not having any side effects yet, but it's only been a week...
I was told to take Glucosomine for my joints, along with Vit D3, Fish Oil with Omega 3, Calcium & a Multi-Vitamin. My back used to hurt a lot, & sometimes my knees, but so far, I feel better than I ever have... This weather used to just make all my bones "clank"....but whatEVER it is, I'm feeling a lot better. I like your picture mumayan! So cute!
AND when do the side effects kick in? Is it too soon to notice anything? I'm going to my "new" Oncologist on the 2nd, & I'll ask her about that Onco type swab test for Tamoxifen! Jeannette
-
Jeanette I have acid reflux so I think I will try adding the Aloevera juice to my morning smoothie.
Love the photo.

Just wanted to say hi to all of you tamoxibeauties. I have been sick...really feeling bad, so, I haven't been on. Just wanted you to know. I already had the flu, but, who knows. Hope that all of you are doing great and have a great week! Susie
-
Susie: So sorry to hear you are under the weather. Hope you are feeling better soon!!
TCK

Yes, mumayan! It is so good for digestive problems, & it healed an ulcer I used to have! I get the gallon jug at Walmart for about $7.85 I think....I make a little pitcher, then drink it 3 times a day...
Let me know if you notice a difference....I still haven't taken a Ranitidine for a week! Jeannette

Susie
Hope you are feeling better soon... sending HUGS your way!!!

Love the kitty! Hoping Susie is feeling better soon!

Susie - not fair to feel so crummy - I hope you feel better very soon!
Jeanette - how do you disguise the flavour of the aloe vera? I have a big bottle of it and try to add it to smoothies but I can smell it and I really don't like the after taste.... (I have cut my Prevacid dose in 1/2 as it looked like T increases its effecacy by up to 150% - and it seems to be working)
Survived my first-mammo-after-surgery/rads today. Not as bad as I thought it might be, as I am still tender. It was for a baseline - so I am not at all concerned about it.
BTW - baby and parents are great ;-))))) 1st pic - one day old 2nd pic - 7 days old today!

What a beautiful baby! Thank you for sharing!

Hello everyone. I sure someone has already answered this but there are so many pages to this topic. I started Tamoxifen on Jan 2 this year and have had no side effects yet. My question is am I just lucky or is it to soon.
Thanks
Jennie

Neece and kirstensmum: Welcome to our group. We are a supportive group so ask any questions that you may have. We are all learning as we go. Kirstensmum it's hard to predict when or if you will get SEs from the tamoxifen. Some people report them very soon after starting and others get them later and some don't have any. Good luck!
Caroline: Your grandson is adorable. I haven't been around a new baby in a while-my daughter's 10. Those pictures are so sweet. Enjoy!

Beautiful baby. What a joy to have in this time of stressful bc stuff.
Had my second post rads appt with onc today. I asked a lot of questions that I got off this thread. I decided to wean myself off the Effexor as I don't think it is helpiing much with the hot flashes and it makes me nauseous even if I take it with food and at night. Of course, after I am weaned off I may find that it helped with the hot flashes more than I thought and I may decide to go back on it. Asked about the blood test and the np is supposed to get back with me on that today but she didn't think they ever had them drawn. She says if you are having side effects it means you are metaboliaing it. She rec. trying Primrose and Black Cohosh for the hot flashes and said taking the vit e was fine but no soy. I asked about ouor favorite tortilla chips that are flax and soy and she said occasionally would be okay. Other vitamins such as a multi and fish oil were okay to take as well.
Can somone post the reference site again for all the things to avoid while on tamox.
As a side note, she said my breast looked great with minimal damage from the rads.
Welcome to the new people. sorry you had to join but as everyone says it is a great group with lots of info.

Morning o2bhealthy! Try mixing the Aloe Vera with Orange juice, a banana, & either milk, or I like that flavored non-fat creamer! Is your Aloe Vera from Walmart? That seems to taste better than the more expensive ones...Maybe you just have to get used to it? And I haven't taken anything for my heart-burn either! It used to wake me up at nights, & it was even worse when I would bend over like working in the garden in the mornings! Not so much of THAT going on these days!
I looooooove your baby pictues! Nothing sweeter than "our own babies" to play with! Jeannette
-
Hi Tamoxibeauties,
SUSIE: Hope you're feeling much better today.
JEANNETTE: Where in Walmart is the aloe vera juice located? All stores are stocked pretty much the same. I was wondering if it would be with juices or health products.
CAROLINE: That baby boy is gorgeous. Loved the pictures.
NEECE: Good Luck with the Big T. Most of us are doing well on it.
JENNIE: You probably will have to wait a bit to see. Some have side effects immediately, but most are a tad later.
We have a sunny day here for a change and a heat wave of 27 as I write this. Even that makes me feel better. So you can just imagine how cold and dreary it has been here in southeastern Ohio. At least my friend in Tucson, AZ got a few "cooler" days. LOL
Take Care All,
Bonnie
