Dear Pepper,
I am so very sorry for everything you have gone through this year.
I lost my brother 6 years ago and it feels like it was yesterday.
I hope that maybe you will come back here more often and let us be here for you the way you were always here for us.
We may not have all the answers, but we understand.
And we CARE about you- a lot.
Love and hugs to you,
g

Pepper, I have been putting off responding to your post. There's just no words that will take away your pain. I hate hearing this has happened to you and your family. Just try to remember that your brother is at peace. I know that brings no comfort to you. He is with you in spirit. Try to remember that he knew how much you loved him. I wish we could take away your pain.
Hugs,
Shirley

Pepper:
I too have no great words of wisdom for you - just want you to know how very sorry I am for your pain and I hope and pray that it will lessen each and everyday. Sending prayers and hugs to you and hoping you can feel the support and love of everyone here.
Blessings,
Pat

My brothers funeral ceremony was beautiful. It was a surreal feeling to know that I will never again hear his laughter, listen to his words of love or see his smiling face that always made me feel so special.
Thank you for all your words of encouragement and love....they will remain close to my heart.
I wish all of you the best of the holiday season,
Pepper

Hi Pepper,
I'm not sure there are any words that can take away the pain and heartache when we lose someone we love. My heart goes out to you and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I'm hoping that happy memories of your brother will soon take the place of your grief.
I too miss Stacey so much! It just doesn't seem right to come to these boards and not see a post from her. I wish they could find a cure for this damn disease!
Hugs,
Debbie

Pepper - I remember you! I'm so sorry...I know you're hurting. Just wanted to let you know that I am sending thoughts of sincere sympathy to you and your family.

Pepper, I think you need to think hard about what you learned from the ones you loved who were taken too soon. I truly believe those people would not want you to be so lost. They gave you love, and I'm sure they'd want you to give love to others. One day at a time isn't just for addicts, it's for grief also. Try to be less sad today than yesterday. If that goes on for tomorrow too, it truly will get easier to put the pain in another place. It won't go away, not totally, but it's okay to start to feel a little better. That doesn't mean you loved Stacey or your brother any less.

I'm feeling rather lost today. Thinking about my brother and all that he's missing in life right now. I see his face in my dreams, during the day, when I drive down the freeway, when I see my son sleeping, it is a never ending vision of him.
I don't know what to do and how to get through this time. I have lost two very important people in my life back to back and I don't know how to let them go....
I just can't let go!!!!!!!!!!!

Pepper, it can take a long time to heal from a loss like this. I know it was years (maybe a decade) before I could bear to look at pictures of my dad after he passed away. Even now, 13 years later, things can happen - a scent, a song, someone whistling... and it hits me that he is gone. I don't know that the sadness and empty space ever goes away, but in time it will lessen and your memories of him will turn to happy ones. For now, (in my opinion anyway!) it's completely normal to feel the loss and grief from his passing. I hope the new year will bring you some peace and that those happy memories will start coming to you. And yes, those can make you cry too! I still dream about my dad quite often. Sometimes he shows up as if nothing has happened even though he was dead and life goes on. Those dreams are always the best and waking up can suck. It doesn't help that it's the holiday season and I'm sure you have memories as far back as you can remember that are of your brother and this time of year. Just do whatever - feel whatever - you want to during this time. Maybe a New Year's resolution could be to think of one happy story or something you remember about him, every day. You could even write them down in a journal. Whenever you feel sad, you could look at those things and hopefully you will get a smile through the tears.
I am sending the most ginormous hugs your way tonight. Hang in there and you know we're always here for you.
Love
Erica

Oh, Babe, it does take a long time. When I lost my Mom, and even today, I can see or hear something and be reminded. Just last summer, I was cooking something she had taught me and sat on the floor and cried and cried.
But most of the time, I have great memories to share with my kids and cousin. It's always good when we start "remember when Mimi" did this or that.
I would take away this heavy grief if I could. You know I would.
-
Pepper,
It does take a lot of time for the grief and shock to subside a bit. I am sorry to hear that you are feeling this way. I don't know if this will help you or not, but perhaps doing something in your brother's memory would give you something very positive to hold on to. I am thinking of something like donating books (about his favorite subject or hobby) to the local library in his name, or starting a small scholarship in your brother's name for a sports activity or a summer camp opportunity for a deserving boy, or doing a creative project like a scrapbook about your brother or a book of poems with photos of him. Since i am a creative person, i have always done some kind of creative tribute to a person that i have lost in my life, and it helps me to stay positive about the loss and allows me to honor my loved one.
I wish for you good thoughts and a peaceful feeling about your brother.
hugs to you,
celia

Thank you ladies,
It is still very difficult to get through this. I miss him so much and I wish that I could just see him one last time to tell him all those things I never got to tell him before. Some words were left unsaid and I know that one day I will have to make peace with this.
I keep wondering if Stacey is holding his hand - the 2 of them would have been a pair!

Pepper, I don't know how I missed this thread. I know for me, death of a loved one just doesn't ever seem to get better. I never get over it. I may not think about them every day any more but when I do think of them, I still break down. A song on the radio that makes me think of my grandmother or my aunt and I'm wiping tears away....
I don't have any good advice except to say that we all should tell our loved ones that we love them while we can.
-
Hi Pepper, I missed this thread as well in November and I'm sorry you lost your brother. I will say a big prayer for you both.pearl49
