I was dx w/IDC after calcs bx'd revealed ALH, ADH on left breast last yr. This yrs May mammo follow up, Birads 3 (short term follow up requested).. So I went in Nov. 1st and now its a birads 4, right breast, clustered, linear microcalcs, and radiologist said it looked suspicious. I was sure that it was going to be positive for DCIS at least. Had core bx and radiologist confirmned removal of calcs at that time and said they are linear, which made them more suspicious. That was Wed, and by Monday they called to say b9, "stromal fibrosis, fibrocystic change, and associated calcifications present"..

My gut is telling me something is wrong, since my IDC was an incidental finding among adh/alh and b9 changes.. I want to know if stromal fibrosis could be hiding something. Having had ALH in left breast, was wondering if it could be near this bx site, and they've missed it.. I am post ooph and have had rads/lump/snb. Any suggestions? The surgeon wanted me to have bilat masts at the beginning due to many lumps.. I opted out 4 other health reasons. Can you tell me about the "thickening"? I want to know what to look for. Since rads on the left breast, my right one looks and feels smaller.

    Blessings to all.

Peachy, If it was me, I would get another opinion.  I remember reading something in the breast cancer abstracts that I go through once a week that people who have had a biopsy, even for benign findings, are more at risk for BC than others.  I guess that could mean a lot of things, but in your case, especially where you have had it before, I would pursue it aggressively.  Why don't you ask for an MRI/ PET?

    Good Luck

    Peachy,

Cheryl makes a good suggestion.  Ask for an MRI.  If I hadn't insisted on having one after an early stage 1 lobular dx, the low grade stage 1 IDC would not have been found on the other breast. It never showed on Mamo or Ultrasound.   While an MRI will give a much more detailed picture, it's only drawback is it is SO sensitive, many  false alarms are raised.

However, you have had a previous dx, so it may not be inappropriate to at least ask for one.

It was only after my second primary was diagnosed that would they agree to do one...which of course found my 3rd primary.

I would not ignore your "gut" feelings if only to reassure yourself, and a 2nd opinion can never hurt.

Peachy,  What was your original diagnosis?  When was it?

Good luck, don't be shy about pushing to find out what's going on.

    Hi all,

Thank you for your responses. I did have MRI and it stated that there was only small foci throughout the both breasts..then the mammo was suspicious... My bx was negative this time. Seeing surgical onco the 6th. He still wants me to have bilat masts, he is conviinced something will be found post mast. I am having issues in that I cannot take ANY pain meds(allergic to all of them), and have other diseases going on. We're trying to figure it out and hoping for the best..

    God Bless you all.
