Hello,

I am approaching my two-year anniversary of diagnosis of triple negative breast cancer (with node involvement). I had AC/T chemo, a lumpectomy with axillary node dissection, and 35 rounds of radiation. I am 40 and perimenopausal. So far all looks good, but during a regular visit with my ob/gyn I asked to be screened for ovarian cancer, just for peace of mind. He sent me for a regular sonogram, which revealed a relatively anechoic cyst in my right ovary. The recommendation was to repeat the sonogram after a month. I had the follow-up sonogram after a month, this time trans-vaginal. The cyst was still there, unchanged; and a new cyst, a complex one, was found in my left ovary. Now they are recommending wait-and-see for three months, but I am uneasy with this approach. What do you think?

The same thing happened to me.  I had a cyst on each ovary.  One complex the other something else.  I was also worried about it.  My doc thought things were fine, and she was right but I ended up having a hysterectomy since I am highly er+.  I remember at the time being very uneasy which is why I chose to be aggressive.  I saw a gyn onc. and he did another u/s and said that he really thought they were b9 but agreed it would be a good idea to take them out.  He was right, by the way.  Pathology showed nothing suspicious.

They really can tell the difference between a cyst and a solid tumor by looking at the ultrasound. These are very, very common.

Usually ovarian cysts work themselves out during your period.  I had a large cyst, and it was painful for about two months.  Then, by my third period, I felt so much relief, and now I go for repeat trans vaginal U/S's every 6 months for follow up.

I have had more ovarian cysts than I care to count. One way of testing it is if they run the doppler on the ultrasound. that can pick up if there is a blood supply to the cyst. If there is then that would warrant a possible laprascopic surgery to rule out anything that shouldn't be there.

I used to get them as large as 10 cms.

Last January my PET/CT scan showed something on one of my ovaries.  This led to an untrasound that showed nothing worrisome, thank goodness, but I have since found out  I am BRCA 1 positive so I ended up having in oophorectomy (sp??) this past summer.
