Mother & Sisters with Breast Cancer?

So glad this thread is still going strong. My genetic testing results came back negative. I am waiting for a distant relative to email some medical genealogy of family  members I have never met. I have found out that breast cancer is running in the family back to the great-aunt level and to their daughters. The relative did not make it to the family reunion....but she asked her elderly father who said, "Cancer ran all over the family." GREAT! Currently the relative I'm talking to has an Aunt with breast cancer.

My mother was never tested for the gene.....she could be positive....but she so far will not take the test. So it looks like my five sisters will have to figure out should they get tested. My father was adopted....but both of his birth parents live into their 90's.

Terry if your gene testing came back negative for BRACA 1 and 2 then your sisters do not need to test further for those genes.....My Genetic Counselor told me if I am negative then the whole family is negative......BUT that does not mean we do not carry a defective gene.....There are somany genes they have not found yet that cause bc....BRACA 1 and 2 are just 2 out of the millions out there......I do know I don't have to worry about my daughter having the BRACA genes and that makes me feel better just knowing that..........Cancer also runs all over my family....Not just breast but also llung, leukemia and skin cancers.......I have lost a sister and brother to lung cancer...My mother, possibly grandmother, a sister and possibly an aunt or two to breast cancer, and a nephew to leukemia......I have a sister who was dx stage 3b breast cancer 3 years ago, I have stage 1b breast cancer, and a sister had leukemia but has been in remission for about 20 years or more.........I remember and aunt who had mouth cancer and lost her whole jaw too......I still say it is all a crap shoot and frankly I am tired of being handed crap!.......Best of luck to everyone.........

I was dx'd in 2004 @ age 48. Two years later my older sister was dx'd. She was 57. Both of us are NED right now.

Sister tested negative on gene. I just got my results this week, positive on BRACA1.

My 31 year old daughter (no kids yet) tested positive for BRACA1 earlier this year.

My mother passed away in 2004 from colon cancer.

My dad passed away this year from skin cancer mets.

My first husband's mother was dx'd with bc in 1980 and had a mx. No rads, no chemo. And is still going strong with no reoccurance.

No other cancer histories on my dad or mom's side of the family.

My mom was dx'd with Ovarian Cancer in 2005

I was dx'd with BC in 2006.

My sister is 44 and so far so good.

My maternal grandmother is 93 with no hx. of cancer.

My mom and I were tested for BRCA. - both of us negative.  Just a fluke?  Environment?

Before we were diagnosed with cancer I used to say that the women in my family either die young of a massive stroke or live forever with arthritis.  I guess I was wrong....

Hi. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October of 2007 at age 44.  My younger sister, who was diagnosed at age 40 with breast cancer in September of 2008.  My mom had dcis removed last year at age 63.  My mother was adopted and found her biological family after her maternal mother had already died of Breast Cancer.  My sister and I tested negative for brca 1 & 2.

I was 51 years old when I was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer. I just ended my treament in January of 2010. On that last day of my treatment, we found out that my mother (aged 73) was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. Now we get to do it all over again!!!!!!I have two younger sisters. Now they are wondering if they will get it.

My Mother passed away from BC at the age of 44 in 1981. My maternal grandmother got BC in her 70's. She had a mastectomy and no other treatment and died of other causes in her late 80s. My first cousin(Mom's side) got it a few years ago, stage 3 at 36. She is doing well. She was BRCA2+. I got it at 44. I am BRCA-. My doctors say they are pretty sure it is a type of hereditary cancer despite my being BRCA-.

I have two sisters. One 47 and one 42. They are cancer free and very diligent.

I am curious about how those whose Mothers passed from breast cancer and then got it themselves are doing. How did it effect you emotionally? It took me a long time to get passed obsessing about history repeating itself. I realize my Mother never had a chance and I have a great chance. That gives me some guilt too.

I wish everyone strength in their fight.

You know something, after my sister was diagnosed with lobular breast cancer a few months ago I decided to go ahead and do a mammogram just to make sure I'm ok. I don't know if doctors recommend it but it could run through the family so, anual checkups are a good way of prevention.

My mom was dx with er/pr+ ILC. I don't think she had any mets to nodes. She was dx'd at age 63. She died at 73 with COPD. My paternal Grandma had breast cancer stage IV at dx. She knew about the lump for years and never went to the dr. She was 82 at dx and died at 83. I was 49 at dx with er/pr- Her2+++ stage I IDC in 2009. My sister has a cyst for 4 years now they are just watching... we don't talk to each other but I know when she heard of my dx she had it rechecked.
