Signs and Symptoms of Recurrance

Options

I have a double mas; stage I, no nodes, 3 neg, grade 3. But, am having "soreness" in my left shoulder blade and left underarm/ribcage. To me it feels like muscle pain or possibly healing pain. My surgery was late June 2007. Anyone have these types of symptoms that led to a recurrance of some kind? I worry about chest wall or rib mets. Help!

Hi, I just posted a similar question, isn't that strange?  My surgery was in March, to left side.  Shoulder blade pain is on right side- kinda feels like muscle tightness but also throbbing pain.   How long have you had pain?  Mine started a few days ago and I don't have a clue re cause.  I thought it was muscle tightness from stress but I'm beginning to rethink that b/c massage has helped.

Good luck, hope you start to feel better and get answers.

    Hi,

I had severe pulled muscle pain in my upper & middle back about 3 yrs. after my original diagnosis.  I think I did pull the muscles while hiding my girl's xmas presents. The severe pain for 1 week was because 2 of my vertebra collapsed in my middle back.

I had bilateral mast. with lat flap surgery in 1/03.  My Onc. sent me for a bone scan in 1/06, "just to be on the safe side" because I had the pulled muscle feeling for 1 whole month.  It ended up to be a recurrence to my spine in 4 spots & liver.

I don't want to scare you, but.......if you have any doubts, get checked.  Yours is probably nothing, but for piece of mind, tell your Dr. and request a scan.

FYI...........I did 18mths. of treatment and am in clinical remission now for 1 yr.!!!!Smile I have joined the gym again and can pretty much work out on most machines, elliptical, bike, treadmill(except I can't run).  Life is good!!!

I had left mast. in Feb 2007.  I have had pain in my back since surgery.  It is not on the shoulder blade exactly.  It is further around toward the armpit.  My surgeon says that it is nerve pain from the nerves regenerating.  He promised me that it would go away.

I know that wasn't the goal, but...this has me worried now. Frown  I've been having sporadic pain underneath the same breast that I had my lumpectomy in, and ever now & again it's light a lighting bolt going through it.  I've been trying not to focus too much on it, since it's been off & on, but I'm making the call in the morning now to the oncologist....

I learned the hard way to be careful about posting a symptom and asking if it sounds like mets. Someone will answer yes and even if it is unlikely and even if you receive a dozen other suggestions for what else it could be, that will be enough to cause panic. I save those questions for my doctors.

I had a bilateral mastectomy with 12 lymph nodes removed under the right arm. I also have severe episodes of pain - kind of feels like someone is stabbing me. The pain is about 6 inches below my armpit and shoots across toward the back. It seems positional- meaning if I move in the wrong way - and goes away after a few minutes of straightening up or changing position. It is so painful I usually jump up from my chair or turn quickly in bed to relieve it. My oncologist also feels it is nerve pain. This is going on 3 and a half years now... so I LIVE with the pain. LIVE being the key word as I have advanced disease.  Just thought I would share what seems to be a common problem. Cheers!

Well, I find this reassuring anyway. I did a little research and found that healing nerves do cause pain for up to 2 years after surgery. If it is still around next week I'll talk to my onc. Now, I just want to enjoy Thanksgiving. I am thankful this year for all of my angels and all the wonderful women I have met since my diagnosis in June.

    Peace.
