Let's conduct our own study on how we all got breast cancer

My dad was the school custodian when I was in high school. I went to school with him instead of riding a bus for an hour to school. There were two cooks with daughters that came early, also. We would go to school in rollers and jammies. We would change at school, put our makeup on and teased our hair and sprayed and sprayed our hair so it would stay up. So, not only did we have our own hair spray, we got anybody else's too. It wasn't all the same brand. Maybe it wasn't good to mix the sprays. I liked Ambush perfume. Love's Baby Soft and later Musk. The hairspray and perfume had to be the culprits for bc.

Hi all, I just started reading this and guess what? I ran behind the mosquito fogger truck too! And I thought I was the only one! This is when I lived on Long Island (NY) back in the 60's. I also had asthma and was always being taken for CHEST X-Rays! Ate a ton of oreos too!

Congradulatoins Hotbolt, I hope ya'll have a wonderful time
I'm thining the underwire in bras could be a huge contributing factor, with the way they poke and irritate. I'm still confniced that burnt marshmellows could be part of the problem, but probably won't quit eating them. I'm sure I got too much xray exposure, since I was accident prone, sitll am. I did swim in the Gulf with those big baloon things floating around too, I'm sure they had something leaking out of them
Sandygirl, I had forgotten all about the fizzie drinks, you could be on to something
that's a good part about this, everyone keeps bringing up things I had forgotten about, reminding me just how bad my memory is, like I didn't know
-
I know I know! pet rocks.... and mood rings! Not a good combination! Tami
-
ah yes, the pet rock.
I found this update post from holtbolt about how she told her son she won the contest- you all remember voting. I can see in her post history she posted twice and it was about midnight so my guess is that she was just too pooped to post. So, here's what she said- it's pretty cool!
Okay..... what a day!!! Max is stunned.. overcome with sheer joy ... I cannot tell you how happy we are at this moment... he is texting, emailing like a crazy person... he will NOT be sleeping tonight...So, we are eating spagetti.. and we (my husband and I) decided to play the game "if you could meet anybody (dead or alive) who would it be......." So, I went first and said mine.. 1) Elvis and 2) Rod Stewart (I'm a huge fan)... then my husband went next and I don't even remember what his two were because I was so excited I wasn't listening.. and then we said Max .. who are your picks.. and I kid you not.. he says...Well, 1) Joe Perry and 2) Stephen Tyler... !! So, I said .. you know what? You ARE meeting them Wednesday night.... and he said "What??" with this Very confused look... like he couldn't comprehend what I just said (or he's wondering how his own mom could be so cruel as to make a joke like that I don't know (lol)..... and I started to explain and he just stared and you could tell (as we explained about the contest and people voting, etc..) that it was clickin in that this was somehow Real.. and the tears welled up and he's rubbin his eyes.. and the chin quivered a little and....... well... I have never seen him happier..... he is totally shocked... and happy and... I don't know.. .... you know... during chemo... it killed me every day seeing his face when he came in from school..... he always came in the door at 3:25 and had this scared/worried look like every day he didn't know what he'd see when he walked in (some days I looked ok (wig, makeup, somewhat normal), some days I did not.. pretty scary)... I will never forget that scared/worried look when he came through the door with this backpack.... THIS... was a different look.. this look tonight... sheer happiness and joy.. this is the best day I have had in a Very very long time... life is goodWe cannot WAIT for Wednesday... first we are invited to a VIP Pre show party (Joey Kramer will be there. the drummer)... food, drinks, contests for more prizes... then the meet & greet with Stephen and Joe (pictures, autographs)... then the CONCERT ... OMG.. we are so so excited... we can't stand it... (oh yeah... they also send him some exclusive Aerosmith gift bag.. stuff from the fan site store)... Ahhh!!I know this might sound silly (this contest) to some people...and I realize it's a small victory in the whole scheme of things.. but you know.. it meant a lot to me to make him smile... and this would simply NOT have happened without you guys!!! Thank you!!
P.S. I cut and pasted this from the other thread.. sorry if you had to read it twice!! lol I'm exhausted! lol
-
I still think housework is the main culprit. Dust bunnies hide in our nostrils when we swat them and then travel down to our boobs!
-
Only Patoo could find a way to blame dust bunnies.
-
Holtbolt, so glad to hear you won the contest and your son is so excited, have a wonderful night!
Okay, that was the niceties! Now people really, oreo cookies! Come on now, how ridiculous, chocolate chip maybe, but lets not blame the oreos! Sorry Dream, I agree with Patoo, dust bunnies!!! Not oreos!!! Anything but oreos...... crap probably was oreos. I am so screwed.
-
chips ahoy...
-
Hey, the gals on the housework support thread would definitely agree with me. That's why they now frown on housework so they can't all be wrong now can they?
-
i wasn't a big oreo fan growing up chips ahoy maybe- my boob forming years i wa addicted to those retangular iced oatmeal cookie with raisins....HMMM maybe the raisins implanted and morphed into a tumor..
dustbunnies!!YES i think so!!
It could however be any of us who passes those noted in school that were folded into all those crazy shapes..OR
How many of us grew up in an Elementary School that had those minty green walls???? Maybe it was toxic green....heck it was probably lead too!!
I KNOW I KNOW...it was all those games of kick the can at dusk....the vibrations we set off kicking that can went to our boobs and screwed up all the genetics...
-
No, I think you were on the right track with the elementary school green walls. Yeah, that must be it.
Okay, ladies, off to bed. Early flight to lay on the beach for a few days. Hmmmm, maybe airplane bathrooms had something in that blue water that caused our bc???? Well, I'll contemplate it all and see you all when I get back next week. (watch as I go through withdrawal being away from all you wonderful ladies for 5 days!!)
-
My evil big sister tricked me to eat dog chocolate treats.
I have breast cancer...she doesn't..you do the math
Hugs
Viv
-
Alright Patoo- I din't take you you don't take me----what is they say about payback???LOL
Have a GREAT TIME!!
HEY maybe it's just blue toilet water in general....You know some of our moms did use that stuff!!
My mom used to make us put Pine Oil on everything...scarpes, cuts, bites...MMMMM damn Pine trees!!
-
pkO199, it's only bad if you just ate the cream and not the whole Oreo cookie. Remember chocolate is an antioxidant.
-
Whew, I should be okay then, I was a piggy and ate the whole thing! Lucked out there. he he.
Patoo try to make sure you take some long walks on the beach, got to get some form of exercise in or you know what will happen, I will have to come down and kick your butt! Keep motivated to have a good time!

ah yes, but what if you dipped the oreo in milk before you ate it? I liked to dip half. But I also liked to split them and eat the middle, and then the cookies too. I eat everything, I like food, and especially cookies... don't get me started...
and i did drink a lot of milk in the 60s and 70s.
-
i was a little milk-a holic too!!! cam in from 90 degree summers to a cold glass of milk even when mom tried to talk me out of it...make you go HMMMMM maybe the cows had it in for us...
MAYBE it was sparklers and roman candles that did us in...ESPECIALLY for those of us that live in states where FW's are illegal....we are being PUNISHED for breaking the law!!!
One things for sure we all have something in common, from oreos, playdough to perfume, to childhood fun AND we are all SURVIVORS despite all the crazy things we have experienced in our lives...this thread is great fun as we take the time to laugh and step away for even a moment...what great fun!!!
Happy Fourth ladies....Take care
-
Bettysgirl: I agree. This thread is great. I have not smiled, chuckled and LOL so much as I have reading things we have thought about. It is great to be able to do that. And then, out of the blue, when you are doing something else, you think about what someone has written, and it starts all over again. Plus, the memories of childhood it is bringing back, to our care-free days, when nothing ever bothered us. We were free to not worry. Thanks for all the great laughs!!
Happy 4th. Debbie

You know come to think of it....my granddad always TOLD me something bad would happen if I swallowed a watermelon seed...i be damned!
-
I thought watermelon seeds made babies??
-
I thought if you ate the seeds a watermelon would grow in your stomach!
-
yeah you're right- i did hear the baby thing but who knos Nothing in my body has ever been normal so I guess the watermelon seed didn't know where to go.....
I'm stretching things i guess...gotta come up with better ideas.
-
Could it be the tie dye? All that flower power had to go somewhere!! Tami
-
that's an idea- who knows what that tie dye did to our systems...
OR how many of us put rubber band around thier bell bottoms so you could ride your bike without getting them caught up ..maybe THAT was a bad thing..either that or the cards we used to put in the spokes to make noise...come to think of it maybe it was because I actually rode a boys 10 speed in stead of a girls....slipped a few times and hit the bar.....then regretted having a boys bike!!!
-
Don't think it would be the pedaling , but....what about all that jiggling and bouncing on our poor undeveloped girls!
-
neither were the tube tops we used to wear that i mentioned. Having to run in gym with your arm across your chest to avoid getting a black eye....I think our poor girls were just tired of all the abuse they received over the years and decided to revolt!!
One thing is for sure now, people realize that I have a face...and a stomach...a really BIG stomach!!
-
I wore training bras for years--couldn't find a "real" bra smaller than a AA cup, so nothing to jiggle.
Could it have been reading all of those Burma Shave signs (can't figure out the connection, but I know they did something). But that doesn't explain BC for women born after about 1965. Oh well, just a thought.
-
Ok, While I agree with the Barbies, Twinkies, Mosquito Truck, Picking the nose, sucking the thumb and too much boob toob. I think all our problems stem from the microwave oven and cell phones.
I have to say, putting my cell phone in my bra on the side the cancer is must have caused it. How many of us have done that because we didn't have pants, skirt or dress with pockets on?
But I truly agree with the BOB. Too darn much fun for one gal!!!
