Alternative treatments-noninvasive

Anyone out there that has/had 1st stage breast cancer-and chose not to do radiation or tamoxifin.  However, chose to do alternative treatments with diet, herbs and exercise?

    Hi Slambr,

5.5 years ago my 77 yr. old mother was diagnosed with stage 3c ovarian cancer.  Being interested in natural treatments for health since the early 80's, I delved into finding alternative cures for cancer.  After having a hysterectomy and her omentum removed, she was still left with residual cancer on her colon.  I researched the chemo agents and found they were fairly effective.  She had only 5 of 6 scheduled rounds because she reached remission within 2 rounds.  Her diet was organic, no sugar, white flour, or processed foods.  We juiced everyday, and drank at least 64oz. of pure water dayly.  She took essiac, MGN-3 and Life Essence liquid vitamins.  She is 82 and still with us today.  She was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer 3 years ago and had lumpectomy and sentinel nodes removed.  NO further treatment.  She has had a recurrence with mets to spine, and we are now doing a regimen like before but with the newest alternatives.  Go to http://www.cancerfightingstrategies.com/?engine=adwords!800&keyword=%2Acancer%2A&match_type=  You will learn everthing you need to about alternatives.  Good luck!

    For Lisa:

Your post interests me, as well

    because my good friend

    84 has Ovarian CAncer

She has stopped TX.. to date

Great to hear this about your Mom

and tks for the info here

    Although I did conventional TX

am a firm believer in some alternatives

as well. Seems many more people

are looking into this, these days.

    A personal choice, of course.

    Sierra :))

slambr...I think that you'll find most of us here have used alternative methods to supplement rather than replace conventional treatments, if only because we needed to feel that we've covered all of the bases and done absolutely everything to survive. Occasionally, posters come on here and evaluate the possibility of doing alternative treatments exclusively, but I don't know of any who have been here (on the boards I mean, not here on this planet!) for a longer period. I'd be very interested to hear of their experiences and outcomes though.

It's true, most ladies who tried the alternative route solely, don't seem to come back to the boards here to tell us how they're doing.

If there really was any one thing or many things to take we would have heard all about it by now.  I'm always looking because when I stop my AI I want to be eating everything out there that was researched to have even a little hope of being a cancer fighter.

So far I can't find any magic elixirs outside of normal medicine that work to put us into remission.

Unfortunately there is no clinically proven diet, herb or exercise to prevent a recurrence for you.  If clinically proven isn't important to you there are a million websites that will promise to cure you after some $$$.  What is the rest of your diagnosis story?  I have seen a few women in my breast cancer support group who passed on the radiation and had recurrences 3 and 4 years later.  But you can always take that chance and then treat the recurrence--it's not a totally unreasonable idea.  Radiation does have side effects, as does tamoxifen.  It's a tough choice.

    Hi Slambr,

Go to my conversation titled "Natural Healing" under this topic.  If you have any questions - I'd be more than happy to answer them.  We first went to "Just Diagnosed" board and were not warmly received and were rudely moved to this topic as you can see.  We are soo happy, however, if you find our information helpful to you.

    Blessings,

    Genesis (and Husband)

    slambr,

As Marin said, there are many women here who are interested in using alternative and natural therapies to supplement conventional treatment.  And there are many women here who've decided to forgo radiation and/or tamoxifen.  Here are some of the factors that go into that decision:

    - How large was your tumor?

    - What grade was your tumor?

    - What surgery did you have (lumpectomy or mastectomy)?

    - How large were the margins?

    - Howly strongly ER+ was the tumor?

    - What does your oncologist estimate to be your recurrence risk, without radiation and Tamoxifen, and then if you take one or both treatments?  In other words, how much benefit would you get from each treatment?

    - How much recurrence risk are you willing to live with?  Some women who are relatively low risk choose to do radiation and take Tamoxifen so that they can reduce their risk to the smallest number possible.  Other women are comfortable to live with a 10% or 15% recurrence risk, and choose not to take any further treatments.

So the question isn't whether there is anyone who is Stage 1 who's decided to not take radiation or Tamoxifen - lots of women have made this decision.  The question is whether this is the right decision for you.  Whether or not you decide to forgo radiation and/or Tamoxifen, if you also want to pursue natural alternatives, you'll want to do a lot of your own legwork about what makes sense.  Asking the women here is a great way to start.  What's unfortunate is that this is an area where there hasn't been much research, so anything you do will have some level of uncertainty.  Even within the mainstream supplement market, it often happens that something that is thought to be beneficial today may be thought to be harmful tomorrow, after some new study comes out showing different results.  And whatever you do, please try to not get caught up in the promotions of shucksters.

Genesis, you say that your post was "rudely moved to this topic"?  You don't think that your post about natural healing is appropriately placed in the Alternative, Complementary & Holistic Treatments forum?  You don't believe that the moderators who manage this board have a right to decide to move a post to a more appropriate forum?  Does that mean that you have no respect for this board or the women on it?  That's my interpretation.....

    Genesis,

I don't feel that you were "rudely moved", in fact, if I wanted to research natural healing, this would be the exact area of the boards that I would come to.  Please don't feel that you were treated unfairly.  With all the different aspects of this disease, alternative and natural treatments would be the place to put your discussion.

    Take Care

    Trish
