The Soap Digest
Anyone else addicted to daytime soaps?
I usually watch AMC (All My Children) and OLTL (One Life To Live).
I have to say that OLTL has become quite interesting with John, Todd, Blair, and Marty on the road trip from hades. This is the funniest thing I've seen on these soaps in a long time.
Todd: Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?
ROFLMAO!

I also watch OLTL. My nephew got my son and I hooked (he lived with us for two years); he started watching it with his mom. When we miss an eposode, we catch it on Soap Net. Heck, we've even watched the week's worth of episodes Soap Net shows on Sunday morning!
We have someone on the boards who is closely connected to OLTL. I'll let her tell who and how if she wants...
I have no idea where this Marcy/Penney and Todd, John, Blair and Marty story line is going. I miss seeing Michael, though. The actor who plays him is originally from this area... -
Well whoever she is...kudos to the show for something fun to watch!
-
I was disappointed with the last time Laura came back. They got our hopes up just to let us down and she was gone again. What's up with that?
-
Another OLTL fan here. I love Viki-- though I want her back in llanview! I think Erika Slezak is the most beautiful woman, so strong and resilient. I think she's the best actress in daytime. She's one of the only actresses who I think pulled off a good breast cancer storyline. I'll never forget when she lifted her wig to Asa and shocked the heck out of him. I think I have a crush on her, even though she's not the typical person one would have a crush on.
How much do you want to bet that the annoying Jared is David Vickers son and thus Asa's grandson?
I'm so glad David is back, if only for 20 episodes.
Apparently Michael is on suspension from the show for his latest arrest and freakout including kicking a police officer. It's sad. He's a great actor. I wonder if he's bipolar.
I heard a rumor that the original Marty is going to be back, that this Marty has been let go. This Marty is growing on me.
I love the Dorian/Langston story line too. It's nice to see Dorian in the protective, maternal role.

NO WAY!!!! David Vickers with a son???!!! That would be hilarious. He just doesn't seem the paternal type. Wouldn't that be fun to watch.
-
If Jared is David Vickers' son/Asa's grandson, who do you think his mom is?
I miss Evangeline(. My son thought she was amazing (and beautiful).
Natalie is getting on my nerves, as is Sarah. I hope Antonio and Talia would go ahead and get together already! -
Okay, first let me make a disclaimer. My discussions only refer to the characters on the show and do not in anyway reflect on the real person behind the character. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.
Natalie drives me crazy!
Evangeline -- I loved her on the show but not with Todd. Sorry, but Todd belongs with Blair. Just the way it is.
Sarah is a twittle head. Is she really that clueless? Come on, she's Asa Buchanan's blood. Surely she got some of his shrewdness.
Clint and Nora -- just doesn't work for me if they are trying to turn them into a couple.
Rex and Roxie -- I love these two and wish they would get more air time. They add humor and interest to the show. I love Roxie's unique grasp on the vocabulary.
Renee -- I don't like that they are portraying her as some hysterical grieving widow. She's got spunk. She's got a lifetime of experience. She's a strong woman. Let's see her be that strong woman. Let's see her at the head of BE!

I posted here yesterday but it disappeared. My ideas for who might be Jared's mother if David is his father 1) Alex Alex Alex 2)some random one night stand (which could also be Alex) since I get the idea David is/was a player 3)One of the people working with Viki at the diner.
I also like Talia, especially since she has a middle eastern background. I don't think there are any other characters with muslim and/or middle east heritage. I don't know if the actress who plays her is middle eastern, but it would be cool if she was.
-
GH is my favorite. Been watching since high school.
-
I forgot I had one more theory about Jared-- that he's Gigi's (from the diner) ex and father of her child...
-
I still don't know how Gigi figures into the picture. I haven't seen much developed yet. I like the Vickie/Charlie thing though. I bet Charlie turns out to be a big rich oil man.
-
Well, it might be a while before much of the above storylines are resolved - due to the writer's strike. I agree whole-heartedly with what they are doing, but it will still suck to have so many re-runs!
-
Don't they usually film a few weeks episodes in advance though?
-
Yep - they are about 5-6 weeks ahead, but this strike may last a while as neither side seems like they are about to budge even a little.
-
Well, this just won't do! They better let us know if Todd gets his son back before we run out of taped episodes. arggggghhhhh!
-
I heard that the writers only get 4 cents for every 9.99 dvd sale-- that's pathetic- no wonder they're striking.
-
And I don't think they get anything for Internet downloads, which is really bad.
When I was freelancing, it was a continuous fight to get $ for articles posted on the Web, especially if the same article appeared in print. It was like the publishers did not see them as two separate mediums although they often produced two separate revenue streams.
I think the writers should strike. Can't have story lines and plots without writers. They should totally be paid for their efforts. -
I agree felicia, although I hate to miss my favorite shows. It seems to me like there is ample money to go around. The last writers' strike lasted 5 1/2 months-- that's a looooooooong time.
-
I sure am loving the Todd/Blair scenes. Fight like they will...these two are true soul mates.
-
Who do you think the masked guy after Cole & Marty on OLTL is?
-
I have no idea but it sure is creepy! If he wanted to kill Cole he could have done it already so he must have something else in mind. Poor kid.
-
Since Marty was talking about Patrick, I think that it's something about him. Maybe he's really alive (although the actor is Zach on AMC) and went into hiding to protect his family. Stranger things have happened on the soaps.
-
Yes, hasn't Victor Lord come back 2 or 3 times already. The last time to steal his granddaughters heart! LOL
-
I was pretty sure the masked person has something to do with Patrick, too, but I just wanted to hear what you guys thought.
Good news! Seems like OLTL has enough shoes to get into the new year, so they should be ok unless the strike lasts a really, REALLY long time. Whew!
edited to add: just thought about the idea that if Natalie and Jared get together and Jared IS Asa's grandson....EWWWW!! But, as Amy said, stranger things have happened in Sopa Opera Land (lol about Victor Lord!) -
Or Sarah and Jared together eewwww! I don't believe Jared slept with either Buchanan, did he?
I'm looking forward to the reading of the will tomorrow and seeing Phil Carey one last time (although I think he's on for 3 days). I had a lot of mixed feelings killing Asa off. The actor survived lung cancer and chemo etc. and killing him off just seems wrong. Apparently he doesn't see it that way and wanted to retire so I guess that's just my own sensitivity.
-
Felicia let me know that this thread was going on. I work in the wardrobe department of "One Life" and I can tell you that we are now working on shows that will be airing in the new year. I'm not sure how many scripts have been written into the future, but I'm still scheduled to work next week. I certainly hope that the writers get a fair contract.
I can't tell you any story line information but I would be happy to share details about how we work.
Amy, you're correct that Phil Carey leaving the show was his choice. He got through his cancer treatments okay, but it became increasingly difficult for him to come to the studio to work. By "killing him off" they could give him the tribute his character deserved by bringing in past actors and "eulogizing" Asa. Unfortunately, I missed working on that episode because I was on vacation.
We, on the crew, are enjoying the direction the scripts are going. There's more humor which is more fun to work on than fires and car wrecks. We love when Tuc Watkins (David Vickers) is around. Have you noticed he's now on Desparate Housewives?
Keep watching and enjoy the show! -
Hey Peg-- I love when David Vickers is on. He's a hoot on Housewives. I usually watch cold case, but have switched since he's been on. My understanding is that Tuc was one of the first out actors in daytime which if it's true is yet another reason to love him.
As for Phil Carey, when I learned her had lung cancer I posted the address to send cards to him on a soap website I was on. A lot of fans really care about him.
Also Peg, what does your job entail? Do you have to sew? It sounds really interesting.
-
Tuc was on Cold Case last week. He killed his wife the night "War of the Worlds" was broadcast on radio and everyone thought Martians had invaded Earth.
-
OMG-- I missed it! I used to never miss that show-- I have a crush on Lily Rush I'll be sure not to miss the repeat I guess he's hit the big time if he's starring opposite himself! Good for him!
-
Amy,
I do have some knowledge of sewing. I often have to do simple alterations (hems, reducing or expnding a waistband). A lot of what I do is drudgery-steaming, ironing spot cleaning the clothes in the morning. Often I'm on the set trying to make sure the costumes look like the designers want them to (fixing collars, using a lint roller, etc.) I also have to take detailed notes about each actor, what they're wearing and how they're wearing it (shirt tucked, sleeves rolled, jackets, jewelry, etc).
Nothing we do is in the same order that you see it on TV. For example, if in one episode Antonio leaves Carlotta's Diner, walks through Angel Square, and ends up at the police station-we might tape the police station on Monday (is he wearing a jacket?) the diner on Thursday (the jacket has to be preset on the coat rack so he can grab it on the way out) then Angel Square is taped sometime the following week (he better be wearing that jacket)
Sometimes the actors have to change clothes several times during a day of taping for different episodes that may air over 2 weeks or more.
This week we did part of the New Year's Eve show at Capricorn with hats and noisemakers and balloons falling from the ceiling. Then I remember I still have to make Thanksgiving dinner.
Our studio will be dark for 2 weeks around Christmas and New Years. See if you can tell who went to a warmer climate during the break. They are not supposed to get tan, but often they can't help it. By then we'll be doing the Valentines Day show.
By the way, when did you meet Rosie?
