Am I the only one hooked on Meerkat Manor
I'm afraid Femara has struck again. I've lost my patience or focus or whatever for television.
I'm down to two shows--House which I Tivo and Meerkat Manor which is my upbeat show until
these last few weeks.
On Saturday evenings or should I say Sunday morning when of course I can't sleep---I've been following the lives of the meerkats and I am thoroughly hooked. I cannot believe that a meerkats
life in the Kalahari could hold more suspense and enjoyment than Desparate Housewifes but
I guess that is where my head is----and now its getting pretty intense with the death of the matriarch Flower and now her daughter Mozart-------so saddddddddddd. I know intense and Meerkat Manor???? What can I tell you.

Hi Susie,
I am also a fan of Meerkat Manor! I love watching the stories of the different little clans. I just wish that their little lives were not always touched by so much hardship! I grew up in Southern Africa but still cannot stand to see how these little guys struggle. I was devastated at the loss of Flower and Mozart. I usually tape the show and then watch it while I ride my exercise bike! Have you checked out the website at Animal Planet for this show? It's amazing how many people responded to the death of Flower.
Hugs,
Les-Ann.

I am also a Meerkat Manor fan. My cats are, too. I'm not kidding - two of them sit in front of the TV while it is on. I think they are attracted by the sounds they make. I didn't see it Friday night, but because of your posting, now I know about Mozart. This has been an awful season. I was really broken up about Blossom last year (yes, I cried) and this season, Carlos, Squiggy & Lenny, Flower and now Mozart. It is so stupid of me to get so upset about it, but I do. Poor Mozart, she always seemed to be so hapless, always getting picked on and losing her babies. I really hope there is a meerkat heaven.
-
Oh Ann---Squiggy and Lenny was absolutely heartbreaking. The tears were streaming that night. And this last episode with Mozart completely isolated, hungry and shaking. She just couldn't get a break.
Les-Ann--What great memories you must have! Some of my family used to live in South Africa and they often asked me to visit. I regret that I never did. I just discovered the Meerkat site.
Life is so hard for these little guys. When I watch some of these shows especially the ones on National Geographic and I think how hard it must be to film this stuff and not intervene when you know they are doomed. Nature can be cruel.
-
There have been so many times watching this season that I wished they had intervened. I know they can't, but I don't know how much more heartbreak I can take. I will watch the episode from Friday next Friday because they always show the previous week's episode at 8 and follow it with an new one at 8:30. I am glad I have warning about it and will be prepared with a box of kleenex. I am choking up as I type this. Really dumb, but I can't help it.
I have to add, if anything happens to Mitch, that's it, I won't watch anymore.
-
Mitch, and then there is poor homeless Zafed, loosing his soulmate Flower,- leaving home for the sake of his daughters so they could have a life and suitors, now they're gone and he's alone foraging in the Kalahari!
-
I feel for Zaphod, but Mitch is such a stand-up guy. He's been the one who has saved them so many times in the past because he is so aware of everything. When he took in that orphan, I was so happy with him. He thinks about his actions, i just think he is so special.
I think Zaphod will find another love and a new family. I could be wrong. There has to be an angel to watch over them and keep the really good ones safe and he is good little guy. I don't know what the expected lifespan of a meerkat in the wild is, but Flower led her family for four years which seems like a long time to me. I have to admit I was more upset about the babies dying (Blossom, Lenny & Squiggy) than I was about Flower. She died saving her babies and she was so fierce and brave.
-
hi,
i love meerkat manor.
i really love house. it is great. i have caught myself watching re runs.
-
I agree about Mitch--That episode where he was carrying Lenny and Squiggy till he was too weak from starvation was incrediable. It's just so sad to see these last few episodes where it seems like as soon as they're isolated they seem doomed---That Hannible is a nasty piece of work!
Can you believe we're having this conversation?
Tawyna -House has been my big indulgance. I enjoy it so much I've bought all the DVD's. Hugh
Laurie is so much fun to watch.
-
So glad to know I'm not the only crybaby when it comes to the precious Meerkats! Looks like there is also a movie in the making:
Hugs,
-
What is in store for us tonight? I will have the kleenex ready for the 8:00 show. I really hope the new show is up beat.
-
do you think rocketdog will tear the group apart? i bawled when flower passed. who do you think wilson will end up with? love that show!!!
-
by the way; i am rooting for happily ever after for zaphod!!
-
I was so suprised that Friday night's show was the season finale. Well, it looks like things are changing greatly. Zaphod has returned to the family, so at least we know he is somewhat safe. But now there is the whole new splinter group. At least, no one died this week. I guess we will just have to stay tuned for the next season.
-
Susie, I hope you are doing Ok on the Femara.
I dropped my jaw when I saw this thread.
I ADORE the show Meerkat Manor.
So does one of my doggies. He plops himself right at
the screen and watches right along with me.
I cried in disbelief when Mozart died. Sean Astin has the perfect voice for narrating the show. It's a wonderful show.
Don't you love the names they are given. Maybelline is priceless.
The show really touches the emotions. I love the show.

I am bumping this because of the new shows coming on - did anyone watch the movie that was on Friday night? It was basically a tribute to Flower. The other thing that was on was a special on the film and research crews. I had no idea they were so incredibly close to the meerkats. I loved how they got them used to them - just a little hum that differentiates them from other humans. It was so interesting to watch the interviews while they were surrounded by meerkats. The new season is starting Friday, the 6th of June. My kittens and I are really looking forward to it.
-
Anne,
I saw the TV movie.
The little meerkats are too cute for words and it was fun seeing them so close to the film crew.
I do wish they had used Sean Astin again for the narration of the show.
His voice is perfect for it.
Flower. What a gal....er Meerkat. I love it.
Can't wait for June 6.
-
I agree about Sean Astin, but Whoopie really did a good job on the movie. I am sure Sean will be back this Friday.
-
Oh good, I hope so.
I can't wait for the new season.
I'll be thinking of you Anne with your kitty watching as I watch with my pup.
He gets on his doggy bed and never strays from watching when it's on.
I also get tears when something negative happens.
But they are so cute.
I bet the film crew loved them being all around and kudos to the film crew for how they managed such a good movie without harming anything.
I enjoyed watching the segment of how they made the movie as much as the movie.
-
Our babies make their debut tonight!
Way Cool and can't wait.

Have you been watching? I am able to watch again, but I refuse to get as emotionally invested as I had been. The kittens are sitting in front of the TV on Friday nights again. It's so cute to watch. I am not so crazy about Rocket Dog, I think the Whiskers need a stronger leader. I like Mabelline, but Zaphrod is messing everything up for her. We will just have to watch and see what develops.
Did you catch the Nightline story on the devotion to Flower? It was great - there are people all over the world that mourned her death. There were memorial services and everything. Okay, I was touched, but not quite that crazy.

THE MARK OF ZORRO
Who else watched last night?
Fiesty Zorro and the Romers join ranks with the girls.
Poor Sophie. I hope she finds Wilson. She is having a rough time of it.
I love this show but way too many commercials.
