I'm so relieved to hear this. To me this is another case of "Jena Justice". If you're not aware of the story, 17 year old Wilson was given 10 years in jail for having consentual oral sex with his 15 year old girlfriend. Wilson was an honor student, football star and had never had any problems with the law. I can't help to think that this would have been resolved without jail time had Wilson been white. BTW, the reason the authorities even knew about this is because the girl's mother complained to police, but later didn't want him charged, particularly with a sentence so out of line.

He was found not guilty of rape but guilty of aggravated child molestation for a voluntary act of oral sex with another teenager. The law that allowed for this outrageous charge has since been overturned, but Wilson remained in jail.  If the same thing happened today there would be no charges filed because those laws were overturned in the cases of boyfriend/girlfriend consentual sex. In June he was ordered released by an appeals judge and right before he was to be released the  Ga atty general filed an appeal  so he's in jail but is FINALLY going to be released today.

I'm all for strict child molestation laws, but not for consentual sex between teenagers when both are minors. If it was a 19 year old with a 15 year old, that would be different-- although 10 years is still a lot of time for a consentual act, IMHO.

Great news!! And I agree with you 100%...if the boy was white, there would have been just a slap on the wrist and no jail time.

You know, I thought she might have been, but didn't know for sure. This is another case I've been following for months. I'm sure he's not going to exhale until he's actually out. I hope Wilson has some legal recourse to sue for his lost years, but doubt it.

He's already making plans to go to college. Smile

What a stupid, stupid, stupid (did I say STUPID?) thing they did to this "boy."  This was just wrong and I think "they" should have to pay!  I cannot believe it!

I think they should have to pay too. I saw a documentary yesterday "After Innocence" about men falsely accused of rape and murder who were later freed by DNA evidence, one man having served over 20 years for crimes he didn't commit, another was a cop, most had no history of criminal behavior-- a few of the men were on death row. Only a few states have laws to compensate wrongly imprisoned people. It really opened my eyes to some of the injustices that go on.
