Thanks for thinking of us!!  I am in the middle of the San Diego fires and the Orange County fires and the smoke is really bad..........and the moon is blood-red, very freaky.  They cancelled school tomorrow because of the air quality, my kids are thrilled.

I am thankful that we are okay and I pray for the families that have lost their homes.  Most of these fires have been been intentionally set, what kind of warped person would do that?

Two of our regular monthly San Diego bc.org Brunch Group were evacuated due to the fires, but are finally safely back at home. We are all dealing with the ash and the poor air quality but feel blessed not to have lost our homes. The city has been pretty much shut down, what with evacuations and road closures, but it is coming back quickly. Our monthly gathering is on for this weekend! Thank you all for your good wishes!

My daughter and I were looking at the moon tonight and it was blood red. Reminded me of the bible .... very freaky!  Funny you mentioned the same thing Michelle.

In Temecula,near my job, they are shutting down schools.  Tonight, there was so much ash in the air and we had to stay inside. There was fear it would climb over the mountain and into the National Forest and then it would hit Corona, where I live.

I don't think it's as smoky today but it's still yucky.  Hopefully it doesn't make it over the mtn, at least it's not windy anymore.

Hi - I live in Trabuco Canyon in Robinson Ranch (which is the Santiago fire) - the street entering our tract is the last street open as the canyon itself has been evacuated.  Lots of smoke, we can see the flames from our house.  But we've been through this before.  Our son is on his second "fire day" (similar to a snow day) - no school or hockey!

My husband called our congressman a couple of days ago to comment on the lack of air support to fight this fire which has resulted in it still being only 30% contained days later - Congressman Miller called back twice and spoke to my husband both times - we were pleasantly surprised at his immediate response to his constituents!  (The lack of air support is a little bit of a hot button topic now.)  Here is a link to a photograph taken by a neighbor in our tract:  http://www.ocregister.com/share/photo/?plckPhotoID=d89c7a5b-5a28-4e62-8d97-7076a129902e&plckGalleryID=76b83da6-0b8b-4cc0-8cef-2bba797c3ffa  It has moved away from us now.  Stay safe, sisters!

Glad you are safe from the flames!

Yes, I've been listening to the radio and found out they didn't have 'fire spotters' so they couldn't lift off. Once they showed up the winds were too high for the helicopters and planes to take off.  Now they have a new rule which allows them to leave without the spotters. 

Hello??  Why not have emergency spotters at the fire departments like firemen?  Why do they get 24 hours to show up for a job? 

''After the fires broke out, it took as long as a day for Navy, Marine and California National Guard helicopters to get clearance to take off because of rules requiring all firefighting helicopters to be accompanied by state forestry "fire spotters".

But by the time the spotters arrived, the winds fuelling the fires had made it too dangerous to fly. The spotter-accompanying rule was eventually waived, allowing flights to begin on Wednesday, three days after the first fires broke out, by which time the area burned had more than quadrupled.

Meanwhile the National Guard's C-130 cargo planes, among the most powerful aerial firefighting tools, could not join the fight because they are still awaiting giant tanks needed to carry gallons of fire retardant that were promised by Congress four years ago. "

Jezza - I can't take credit for the photo, someone in our neighborhood took it and posted it.  But it is amazing!  No, we didn't have to evacuate - a block farther into the canyon is the cutoff line - I don't know if that makes me feel more reassured or less reassured.  But I do think the worst is over.
