Cost of treatment - have no insurance, help!
Hallo all
Just came back home after 3 wks visit for my oldest sister (who lives overseas)who had bc and extensive bone met and just had left femur surgery to stabilize it, dr put her on Femara and Zomita (she have ILC since early 2005, she was already having the bone met when she was diagnosed and had left breast mastectomy and was on Tamoxifin for 2 years and teh new dr overseas said that according to her positive progestrone, she should not have been on Tamoixifin and switched her to Femara and Zomita)
I'm wondering how much would her treatment would cost for 6-12 month if I bring her to US, she got no insurance!, would she be able to fly back to where she lives in ME later on, I'm very concerned about the cost which somehow our family have to pay for it
I know the moment she arrives here, the dr would want to do all kind of tests, that's a lone would cost a fortune of at least $30,000-40,000 if not more (scans, MRI .... and the like), then if she gets other type of met, and if she needs radiation, then how much would this cost, or if she ended up in the hospital for a reason or another, this will be a disaster, money wise!!!!!!!
I'm sorry to bring up the cost subject, but it's a fact of life here in the states, I'm afraid they will refuse treating her unless she pays in advance, any suggestions? I myself prefer that she stays where she is staying now in Saudi Arabia with one of my brother who lived there for a long time, they have free health care system there and the treatment would cost them nothing, but the brother and my sister is kind of thinking that I'm kind of selfish thinking about the cost, I have no idea how to open their eyes to the fact that this is a fact of life, us Americans faces everyday, I'm telling them that I'm so scared about her being here and not able to get treatment because she might run out of the money in the first month she arrives here, then what???

OMG - I just read that the Susan G. Komen Foundation has just recently put together a group of 125 International Affiliates throughout the world. One of which is in Saudi! Here's a link to the press release:

You should contact them and ask for assistance. I am sure they will help! Here's their U.S. link:
They help many women who are unable to pay for treatment.
Best wishes to you and your sister. Please keep us posted.
