Class of 2003...What's up?
Hey all,
Just checked in and saw a few familiar names. Just wanted to see how everyone is doing and send my love. I come and lurk , even post now and then but not much.
I'm still riding my Harley, working as a psych nurse and enjoying my grand daughter who just turned 2!!
Health wise, so far so good. Enjoying each day as it comes.
Be Well

Hi Stacey!!
Lovely to see you! Your granddaughter turned ***2***? Seems she was just born not long ago.I remember how beautiful she was! Now I know she's MUCH more beautiful, AND she can talk!
I'm definately still around.I never had so awful a time during chemo as I'm having on this AI, Femara.By now it has made me into a 90 year old GOMER.I'm hatin' it, and am needing all the support I can get.
My onc taught me that those of us who have trouble w/AIs are "very sensitive to estrogen."or the lack of.Hello?I could have told him that-I know from menopause!
My grandkids are teenagers! My granddaughter is 16, a liftime all-A student, and is presently collecting info about the 2 college BS/med school 6 year programs here in Philly. My twin grandsons are 14.Hah!Seems just yesterday THOSE kids were born!
I have rescued a sweet, brilliant dog from NYC SPCA.He lights up my life.I also am getting active with the democrats locally, and with an org which is trying to keep the Barnes Foundation, an awesome Impressionist museum, in its original home.
So--gently fighting the good fight.Has to be gentle, because Femara has all but crippled me.I couldnt lie down in front of a schoolbus if my life depended on it!
Lots of love to you, j

Joan, you NEVER cease to make me laugh OUT LOUD (all by myself), no matter HOW badly you feel. You just make a joke out of it.

Hey Joan, thanks, it's a picture of a woman under water! It felt appropriate at the time!

Hey I'm here. I'd like to say things are going great and in areas they are! Still NED so that's the awesome news!!!! But just a few weeks ago I was dx with an aoritic aneurysm. Right now they are going to moniture it. LOVE THAT!
I have an EKG on Monday to double check some things and then as long as that's fine I have a repeat CT in March. They don't start talking surgery until it's 5-5.5 and mine is 4.7. And yes that's in cm's.
Otherwise all is good. My dear new son Samuel is awesome. Such a sweet kid that lives to make his mommy smile!!
Take care everyone.

Hi girls...another 2003er here.
Still bobbling on, I'd bobble a damned sight quicker if it wasn't for Arimidex !!
I am almost at four and a half years.
Life as I knew it has certainly changed !
I have 6 lovely grandchildren, ranging from 19 to 6...the older ones are a worry, the young ones a joy !! They take my mind off things.
At least I walk about like an old granny even if my mind says I'm not an old granny.
Isabella.

Hi all!
I haven't posted in a very long time! Great to see an '03 thread!
I was DX 9/3/03 IDC/DCIS Stage 1 Grade 1 at age 46. Had R-mast and expander. Serious infection (PIC line & all needed) so expander removed 12/1/03. Started Tamoxifen right then, no chemo. Wore the prothesis until 1/28/05 when I had L prophy mast and bilat DIEP in VA. After all this surgery, had bilat nips on 6/11/05 and haven't had any surgery since!!! YEAH!
I am now on Femara and I tolerate it pretty good, EXCEPT, my cholesterol shot up so am now on Simvastian (Zucor) and have osteoperosis so take Actonel. All this, from Femara S/E's...go figure....
But I'm here, feel great and hope all my 2003 sisters do too!
HUGS....Gina -
Hi Stacy and everyone,
I was dxed in February of '03. I'm doing well. I've been on femara and not having too many problems with it.... weight gain, some aches and pains, but nothing that bad.
I'm still subbing in the schools and just finishing up training for a new volunteer position in the community. It should be interesting.
My son is working is the schools and taking classes towards a teaching degree. He wants to be a physics teacher! My oldest daughter is working for the American Cancer Society and loving it. She's going to climb Mt Kilimanjaro in February to help raise funds for ACs ( and for fun!). My youngest is now a freshman in high school! She was only 9 when I was dxed.
I come on the boards a bit to find out how our '03 friends are doing. I see Kimmy and BJW occassionally. I wonder how Rose is.. and Lilee and Leelee. Flash posts once in awhile.
Good to hear from you Harley. Take care!

Stacy! How good to see you pop in! I've just finished bilateral mastectomies with implant reconstruction--found a new primary (lobular) in the other breast last month.
Recovery is going well, but I hate giving up the time for hiking a climbing. Being a couch potato doesn't come easy, but when on pain meds, what else can you do...
Keep riding and enjoying the grandkids. Mine are 6 & 4 and I get pictures of them frequently. I figure the smiling I do when I see them is good for the soul!
Take care,
Anne

Stacy--thought you'd ridden off into the sunset, never to be heard from again!!! So glad to see you post...a few of us are meeting in Vegas Nov 8 - 11th--come on over and join us!! PM me or e-mail me if you might be able to make it--as well as anyone else who would like to join us!
Big Hugggssssss from junie

My mom was May 2003 and I joined bco in August 2003 (I think) She loves hearing how everyone is doing....She is doing well, on Arimidex but almost at the end of that road..we just did a BC walk..I was really excited to see you guys..I remember you from awhile ago
I read mostly back then, but didn't write much...glad you are doing well and I look forward to seeing more oldies...
Love Marisa

Wow, so glad to see that so many of you are here and doing well.
Anne, so sorry to hear about the new primary, but on the up side your new rack I bet is amazing LOL!! Hope recovery is speedy and you can get back to the things you love to do!
Joan, you're still hysterical! Barb, another "face" I was glad to see. I talk to Kimmy once in a while on myspace.
I visited Traci in New Orleans in June, that was a blast, and I'm in touch with Lois, Cari and Pepper.
I still get so heavy hearted when I think about Sprite and Sunshine.
Junie!!! I miss you. Don't think I'll make Vegas though. Just took 2 weeks off last month for my Amazon Heart Thunder motorcycle ride for breast cancer and booked a cruise to Cabo in April, so tryng to save vacation. I will be in Lake Tahoe for Super Bowl though.
Emelee, glad your Mom is well.
Paulette, Survivor Mom, Gina, Isabella. So great to hear from you all as well.
I must say this new format has me a bit confused (Not like that takes a lot these days LOL!)
Be Well
all of you
Love Stacy

Hi Fellow 2003ers:
It's good to see everyone again. I was dx in May, 2003 - 3 months before my youngest daughter's wedding. So that means next May will be my five year mark. My older daughter had been married in 2000 and we had no grandchildren then at the time of my dx. We now have 3 grandchildren with another due in May of next year!!! It is wonderful. My older daughter has a daughter named Reilly (my maiden name) and she turned 2 in June. My younger daughter has two boys, Connell and Quinn. Connell just turned 2 on October 19 and Quinn will be one in January. Wow!! They are such fun. We all live in different states but make it a point to get together alot. Medically, I was on Tamoxifen for about 14 months and have been on Aromasin ever since. Hope I haven't rambled on too much but I have a special place in my heart for all of my 2003 sisters!
Hugs and Prayers,
Pat

I was diagnosed on Friday the 13th, June 2003. Healthwise, I'm fine, except I'm FAT. My husband became disabled just as I was finishing treatment and hasn't been able to work for three years. However, he's finally got a disability hearing date next month so my life might be getting back to "normal" soon. In the meantime, I'm working two jobs, but they're both wonderful. I really love the night job and although I'll scale back when his disability starts, I'll never completely quit it. I drive a big black trolley with purple lights under it and tell tourists ghost stories of Savannah. I play a character I've named "Eula May" and get to put on makeup and a costume and do some real, live acting. And they PAY me to do this! Plus I get tips. Having cancer made me realize how short life is and I'm determined to squeeze everything out of it I can.
-
Hooptie...your "job" sounds awesome! Congrats!
-
Pat, So happy to hear that you're doing well. Aren't the grandbabies a joy?
Hooptie, your job sounds amazing!!Sounds like the only thing that makes it "work" is the paycheck!!
Cheers to 2003!
-
Stacey:
Thanks for the kind wishes. Yes, grandbabies are the best ever!! Just got back from visiting both gals and babies. I know you're in heaven with your little one too!! Hugs . . .
Hooptie:
My hubby and I went to Savannah about two years ago . . . my first visit there ever. I fell in love with your city - it is just gorgeous. We went on a Garden of Good and Evil tour with a lady who knew the real people the book was written about and it was so special. She even took us out to the cemetary. Take care -

Hello all,
It's nice to see so many familiar names. I have just passed my 4 year mark since dx.
Very happy to still be dancing with NED. At times I get down about all the side effects from Aromasin. But I want to make it to the end of my 5 years of HT if I can.
My daughters are now 7 and 13. The 13 year old is at times a joy and then, being a 13 year old girl, she can be a major pain in the butt! But she is a good student, and a good soul and she tries hard.
My little one is a sweetheart. We only realized at the beginning of this school year the toll my dx has taken on her. She started exhibiting signs of post traumatic stress. For any of you ladies reading this, if you have young children, don't assume that because they are acting okay that they are not being affected by your dx.
She was always so happy and care-free that we never thought my illness was impacting her. She was 3 when I was dx'd, and we thought she was oblivious. We focused on getting our older daughter who was more aware of the seriousness of my illness through.
My little one is now seeing a child psychologist, and she is sleeping better and showing signs of improvement, but I still am worried and feeling pretty guilty too.
But in general, things are good.
Hooptie--if I ever get a chance to visit Savannah, I will try to take a ride with you. I love ghost tours. Took one last year in San Francisco and it was a lot of fun (and a little spooky too!)
Hope some more of the class of '03 checks in too.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone,
Eileen

It is so great to be reading and seeing familiar names and faces on this thread. Hello everyone.
I'm an infrequent visitor here nowadays.
Had my 4 year anniversary in August. Been doing great and feeling good. Work has been slow. We adopted a cat and puppy earlier this year, a beautiful calico named Persiphone and a boxer named Phydeaux. They're keeping my hands full.
Eileen, I'm so sorry to hear about your youngest. Don't feel guilty. Being she was 3, so happy and carefree, how could you have guessed. Take comfort that you have found out now and getting help for her.
