TAMOXIFEN/PROVERA
Comments

My gyn put me on Provera as I had a fibroid with bleeding. Today I found out the news that Tamoxifen and Provera counter act each other. Needless to say that was quite upsetting. Anyone else have such an experience.
-
Provera is contraindicated in women with a history of bc. Did your gyn know you had bc and are on tamoxifen?
-
My gynecologist knew I was taking Tamoxifen and we discussed it. That is what floors me. At any rate, on my next menstrual I am to stop the Provera, just pray no damage done in the 4 months I have been doing this.

I am sorry I did not respond NativeMainer, but I am new at this
site. Diagnosed 4 years ago Stage I-mastectomy, no chemo, but taking Tamoxifen therapy.

I was on provera to control my fibroid bleeding. At my first appointment with my surgeon he told me to stop the provera because my tumors were er/pr+ cuz the homone would feed the tumor growth. When I asked about the bleeding issue, he said the chemo, especially the tamoxifen would shrink the fibroids, stop or reduce the bleeding, and would probably give me the last push thru menopause. My periods have been erratic for the last year, my last one was the end of August so they are still calling me "pre-menopausal". He has been a gyn for 30 years with a speciality in breast health & surgery at the cleveland clinic. I would question your onc. We all need one voice to help us with control over the chaos and I have given that authority and trust to my oncologist.
Good Luck!

Thank you so much. I am suppose to stop the Provera at my next cycle and hopefully, the Tamoxifen will shrink the fibroid. I am 49 years old, so I guess I would be pre-menopausal too.

Oh, by the way Cleveland girl, we are big Cincinnati Reds fans.

Glad to hear you are zin-zin reds fans, but their is nothing like belonging to a TRIBE! lmao. I was so bummed out we didnt beat those bos-sox to get a crack at the rockies, but hey....we did beat those damn yankees! I had my partial mast on 10/11 so i was looking forward to those games as my daily entertainment. Only 115 days left until the pitchers report to spring training!
How about those Bengals? I have some great friends in the zin-zin area, spent many a weekend driving the 5 hrs down then the return trip back. But good friends are worth it, right?
I just turned 50 in August. My periods have been erratic for the past year since I had a d&c. It is sorta hard being on the edge, the onc has to try to figure out which drug will be best.
Since you are doing October chemo, you should come visit the October chemo girls 2007 thread. It is a great group that can answer your questions and give great support. I havent started my chemo yet, i had a few delays. I will start a/c on 11/1.
