Top 10 Reasons to Look Forward to Chemo (????)
Comments
-
Sorry - perhaps this topic belongs under the Humor thread, but I thought I would start here.
I want to create a list that we can post on our mirrors (sort of in David Letterman, Top 10 style) for reasons we should look forward to chemo!
I'm looking for your input. Obviously, "It will save our lives" ranks as #1, but I'm trying to find other, preferably humorous benefits to this treatment as well.
My first entry is: Not needing to shave our legs. (and yup, I personally am REALLY looking forward to this!)
But, after that, LOL I'm stuck. For those of you who have been there or are there, can you help add to the list?
Thank you!
-
Not needing to shave the armpits:)
And getting to sleep in a bit since I can get in and out of the shower under 10 minutes with no hair to wash or shave.
-
Isn't great to sleep a little longer?
What is your advice on skin color? Today I felt that my face looked a little ashy. Make up does not help. -
Well, I guess the jokes on me because I had no hair EXCEPT on my legs. LOL
I was told by a friend who had bc a few years ago to play the cancer card at anytime, so my addition would be:
Remember, it's all about me. :-)
-
I'm with you on the hair thing! I can be out of the house in 10-15 minutes now! I'm almost going to be sorry when I have to deal with it again! It does help you to cool off faster from the hot flashes, too. Still got the leg hair, though. But no pit hair!
-
One good thing is the free lunch at the chemo clinic/infusion room.
Another is the wonderful snooze from the prelim drugs they give you while sitting in the infusion chair. Felt like I was in the day room of a nursing home.
And I definitely like washing my face and head at the same time.

They give you lunch? All they have are cookies/pb crackers/pretzels at my treatment center. When you're there from 9:30 until 4:00, you need food!
-
No free lunch at my chemo center either. I ususally bring treats for the staff.
However, I don't miss the stress of working (not that cancer isn't stressful). I get to watch Oprah and Dr. Phil, knit, have lunch with friends and time with my SO.
-
Don't have to worry about how you will style your hair today.
-
Uh, you're kidding, right?
Tina
-
Well I went to weight watchers and I gained the weight back - I've now lost ten pounds on the chemo involuntary weight loss plan.
-
One reason to look forward to chemo?
Its given me four more years of kickass fun I wouldn't have been around to enjoy without it.
-
Let's see....
Forget just not having to shave your legs...I got a free Brazilian wax out of the deal!
All the money I saved on hair care products.
No need to go in for a pesky pedicure...those nails were either gone or already a gothic shade of shiny black
Meal planning was easy...Do I want the pudding or the cottage cheese?
Quit worrying if I contributed to my 401K....may not be here to spend it...
OK...Now I am verging on the bitter...I better stop.
I commend you for looking on the light side of life. I am trying to join you, but I've been a grump the past few days....
-
What a fun idea! The best thing about doing chemo for a stay at home mom of 5 kids is getting to take a day off once a week, sit in a recliner, and have people wait on me. My husband buys me lunch, and treats, and I get to sit there are read, watch a movie I want to watch, sleep.... Yeah, they are pumping me full of poison while I am in that recliner, and it costs about $3,000 a week, but hey, gotta look at the positives!
-
Thanks for the posts ladies - my list is coming along...albeit slowly....although it's not "mirror post worthy" yet. (Really, what would my teenage daughter think if she saw "free brazilian" on the mirror? LOL - might be good for a little bonding chuckle though)
I'm so, so disappointed to learn that I may not lose my leg hair...that was definitely the one thing I was looking forward to!
My apologies to anyone who may have thought this was a bizarre idea. My thinking was simply, anything to make the process seem a bit less intimidating would be good! And, I've certainly enjoyed reading the responses.
Thanks again, and take care all!

It brings out the best in family and friends. On the whole this has been my experience so that's a big plus.
-
How bout, Ya find out who your real friends are.
You get to become a hat collector.
I really like the one "it really is all about me".
-
If you're one of the lucky few to get hand-foot syndrome, when the skin peels off your heels, they'll be softer than they've been in years.
And ditto on the "It really is all about me." Loved it!
-
I thought of more...
How about you can say "NO" with impunity! No one will ask you to do petty stuff you don't want too.
"Do you want too make cookies for the bake sale?" NO
"Do you want to work in the concession stand, in the rain, for hours, at the ski meet?" NO
You get the idea...
You can play the "chemo card" to get out of darn near anything from your third cousin's wedding too making costumes for the school play.
You might get the chance to try the favorite lasagna recipe of ALL of you friends and neighbors.
You can chuck your mascara
You will get the chance to see which of your bald male relatives you most resemble...
Hmmmm...I'll have to think of more
-
for me it's the fact that I actually get to spend time with my husband. We both live busy lives but he always takes me to chemo and we have developed a little routine for the day. It feels like a day out!

All the little age spots my dermatologist was watching and would periodically treat just peeled off my face and hands during chemo - go figure!
-
ugh.. I have hair EVERYWHERE but on my head LOL I was so hoping no more shaving, especially the armpit with all the scars.. ah well.. we'll see..
Good thing about chemo.. my hair was so over processed.. I get a fresh start!! nice clean NON Processed hair! whoo hoo!
well.. that's about it.. but still a great thread

After the sweltering summer we just had down South here, I found myself almost wistful (I said 'almost') for the days when I could just pull my wig off and feel the cool breeze or fan on my bald head. No one else I knew could do that....they had to sweat it out!
