Artocracy is pleased to announce its fund raising campaign for The Pink Shamrock Foundation, which serves medically underserved women with breast cancer. The Pink Shamrock was founded in 2002 by Megan Murphy (The Founder of Artocracy) who lost her mother to breast cancer in 2001. Artocracy’s exhibition this month features artists who are donating a portion of their proceeds to the foundation. The proceeds from this exhibition will go directly to the Pink Shamrock Foundation. The artists in the exhibition are making both full donations and partial donations while Artocracy is donating its proceeds from the printing and framing.
Megan Murphy is offering her art multiple, 131 for this months breast cancer exhibition as Artocracy’s free download. You can either purchase the PDF for $10.00 for a full donation to The Pink Shamrock Foundation or download it for free and give it to a person you know who is fighting breast cancer. 131 was made with imagery from the mouth of the Columbia River where the radiation from the Hanford Nuclear Reservation enters into the ocean. The Iodine 131 plumes from Hanford have been linked to high levels of breast cancer in women downwind from Hanford. Megan's mother, Denny Murphy, was one of those women.
The mission of the Pink Shamrock Foundation is to ensure that all women, especially those with limited funds and resources, have access to the care and support they need to fight breast cancer and win. Breast cancer knows no class, race or geographic lines; all women are at risk. However, breast cancer’s seemingly egalitarian nature stops there: Women in lower socio-economic levels have the lowest breast cancer survival rate on record. The Pink Shamrock Foundation works to help women who fall between the cracks of the health care system. Since its beginning the foundation has given away over $35,000 to women in need.
