READY TO TRY A HALF-MARATHON FOR BC?!

Options

I posted this as a marathon further down, but one of our fit 'n active members, trigeek, tells me that there's also a half and she is registered for it! I think it would be awesome to see a group of us from bc.org participate together! If you're tempted to try the half-marathon, this would be an excellent opportunity since it benefits our CAUSE!!!!

Let's go, girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll tell you what FitChik. This might be just what I need to push myself towards better cardiovascular meshing with respiratory breathing.I've been just off, for years, in this regard since chemo, etc.,etc.

I've really become distressed over this, as before bc I used to run a lot.

So, I'll get back on my jogger today with this in mind.

I can't pledge right now, but if I can do it, and work up to it (October to February sounds a lot, yet for years my breathing, pumping has been "off".) then I will.

I'd love to join you and Trigeek by reclaiming the more athletic Tender.

Thanks for your post. It's encouraging!

It will be so much fun we can have our own group there.

Just a heads up though the hotels listed on the race site are already booked however there was still accomodations at:

the Residence Inn By Marriott at Butler Blvd, Jacksonville.

I am sure there are a sleuth of other hotels there. Even if you are not 100% sure of participating just book the hotel, you can always cancel the reservation if you need to.

I am working on a training plan to work up to this, and will post it on this site once I am done, hard to schedule a half marathon training plan for chemo.

Presently I am up to a 3 mile walk at 3.2 mile / hour pace on the dreadmill.

Here is a draft of my training plan to walk / maybe jog/walk the half marathon.

Every week I will do 2 X 3 mile walk and in addition to these I have scheduled a long jg/walk working up to the distance so the plan is to do walk/jog total of 3 times a week. I do not need to complete a 13.1 mile to prepare for a half marathon my longest walk/jog will be 10 miles.

Long walk/jog will be on the Monday,Tuesday or wednesday of my chemo weeks ( I get mine on Thursdays, that way I will be at my peak of my treatment cycle for these workouts)

Week Start Date                Length of long jog and/or walk

    08-Oct-07 Chemo on thurs    4
    15-Oct-07                             4
    22-Oct-07 Chemo on thurs    5
    29-Oct-07                             4
    05-Nov-07 Chemo on thurs   6
    12-Nov-07                            4
    19-Nov-07 Chemo on thurs   4
    26-Nov-07                            4
    03-Dec-07 Chemo on thurs   6
    10-Dec-07                            4
    17-Dec-07 Chemo on thurs   7
    24-Dec-07                            4
    31-Dec-07 Chemo on thurs   8
    07-Jan-08                             4
    14-Jan-08                             9
    21-Jan-08                              4
    28-Jan-08                             10
    04-Feb-08                              4
    11-Feb-08                             Event  on Saturday

Presently I did a 3 mile walk at 3.2 miles per hour speed on the treadmill with 1% incline.

Well, I have only done 3 5k's and I'm thinking of being crazy and signing up for the 1/2.  There are 3 people at my Y that are doing the marathon, I just don't think I have time to train for that.  I finish chemo tomorrow so as soon as I get through that if my oncologist gives me the thumbs up, i'll register.

I guess this means I'll actually have to start going to the gymInnocent

Well, I forgot to ask Dr. HunkyLaughing  I was so caught up in the "I can't believe this is my last chemo" that I forgot most of my questions....including followup questions.  Oh well, I will ask Melinda next month when I go in to get my port flushed.

He encouraged me to continue to work out through treament (like I had the energy) so i'm sure a 1/2 marathon will be fine.  Now if I can just get my butt in gear and start moving.  I am so jealous that you you have a training plan:)  My plan usually consist of walking from the couch to the fridge and lifting junk food into my mouth.  But my goal is to start back at the gym next week.  I can no longer use chemo as my excuse and I need to get back on track with my nutrition.

Good luck with your next treatment.  Love the shirt idea, I saw you pic on your blog:)  My coworker suggested a shirt for me and I designed it at www.cafepress.com, it says:  Warning: Extreme Courage may lead to hair loss:)  I alway tell her how tired I am of people staring at me when I go out shopping and stuff (some of it may be in my head) so she mentioned this in conversation and I ran with it.  You might want to check out the site for some t-shirts...theres some good ones.

    Ginger
