Progression For Me
Hi Ladies,
I have been having headaches for a couple of months now...My onc did a ct scan and could not find anything wrong with my brain, thank goodness... But I kept having the headaches, I went and had my eyes checked about a month ago, got new glasses and he could not find anything wrong...I kept having the headaches and some blurry vision, and some double vison...About 2 weeks ago I reached up to rub my eye and felt something on my eyelid...I let my stepmom feel it and she thought it might be like a cyst...Well I waited a week and it did not go away and it felt like it was getting bigger...I finally went in and saw my eye doctor again and he did not like what he felt...He sent me that afternoon for a mri...Well, it turns out the BC has spread to my lacrimal gland, which I understand is a tear duct...I went to a orbital eye specialist and he confirmed it was the bc...My onc has put me on navelbine and we are hoping it will work on my liver mets and now the mets on my eye...If it doesn't work on the eye I may have to have some radiation to it..
I just wanted to let you all know about my eye because I have not heard of anyone else having this...I know the cancer can rear its ugly head in all kinds of places, but please if you are not feeling well and having symptoms you are not sure about make sure your onc keeps on top of it to find out what it is...
My tumor markers jumped up 80 points and are now at 337..
I did recieve 2 units of blood a week ago and that perked me up alot...
Sending hugs and prayers to all..
Hugs and God Bless,
Cherie

Cherie,
Funny you mention your eye. Since I've been having progression, I have developed a growth on my top right eyelid. I've had headaches and have just had my second brain MRI today.
I've now have mets in 4 or 5 places now, including the lungs, skin and just recently the liver. when I see my onc again, I'll bring it to his attention. Regular doc said it's a cyst, but he knows jack about cancer, quite honestly.
Thank you so much for posting this.

Cherie,
I am so sorry to hear about this. I will be praying for the Navelbine to work on all of your mets!!
I have really had it with this disease. It really doesn't have any limits. I have an eye appt on Monday, because my vision seems to have changed in 3 months. I blamed it on the chemo, but never imagined that cancer could be back there. I really hate this disease and what it is doing to all of us! (Sorry for venting.)
Good luck Cherie!

I have heard that the eyes are one of the places mets will go. They are so darn nasty! I hope the chemo works to get rid of this so you can get some relief!

Boop and all,
I just happened to be passing through and saw Boop's post.
I wish to share with you that the histology of the lacrimal gland is very similar to breast ductal epithelium.
When I saw your post, Boop, a bell went off in my head because I found this factoid fascinating, and learned of it just after my own breast cancer diagnosis.
So, imo, this suggests that it should respond to the chemotherapy you're receiving, I mean, it may have selectively gone there (the met), because the lacrimal gland epithelium is like our breast epithelium.
So, I'm real hopeful for you that this will respond...and well.
Just thought maybe this would give some encouragement, I know you all have been through a lot.

Hey Boop-
So sorry to hear about your progression. I know it is always such a disapointment and scary thing to hear. Here's hoping your chemo will knock it right back down.
Good luck, and love and hugs..

What is the saying, Like a sharp poke in the eye? Dragt! I am sorry that you had progression there.
I have heard of it and my Eye Doc checks for it because of my history. At least my insurance will pay for eye exams.
Fingers crossed that the Navelbine. What a weird name Navelbine.

Cherie,
Sending hugs and prayers to you and to your doctors that they get this fixed quickly.

Boop,I am so very sorry this is happening to you. I was diagnosed with both ER+, PR+ & HER2+ stage 4 cancer in Austin of 2012. In mid 2014, my right eye beginning to swell and fluid collected underneath my eye. Then my right eye began to droop. My onc sent me to her eye specialist and we did an MRI. Sure enough that stupid stuff has spread to my tear gland and the muscle controlling my top eyelid. We did radiation finally in March of 2015 and it did kill most of the cancer. But it destroyed my tear gland and severely scratched my cornea. I have to use nighttime dry eye ointment 24/7 to keep my eye lubricated and free of pain. But I will never be able to have my vision restored in that eye. My cornea did heal, but with scratches that distort my vision. But my left eye has picked up the pace well and I still see really well out of that eye. I should have bought stock in the company that makes Systaine Night Time Ointment for dry eyes. I got through a tube every two days. The drops worked ok at first, but I was having to use them every 2-3 minutes. So the ointment is much better. I also had to have a special surgery done to stitch my top and bottom eyelids closed a bit to limit the eye's exposure to air. It's not attractive for sure, but it does relieve the pain from air on a dry eye.
Ladies, regardless of what kind of cancer you have, if you notice ANYTHING different about your eye, don't take that for granted! Get that eye check quickly! Curiously, I was on Navelbine before this all started, but it didn't seem to keep the cancer from spreading to my eye. So please get help quickly if you notice anything. Praying for you as you face this new challenge.
