My Dr. ask me to take turmeric while undergoing radiation. I didn't burn. The other gal I spoke to while going there was on it too and she didn't burn. I wish more Dr.s would suggest this to their patients.

I took approximately 1 tablespoon daily cause no one told me it came in pill form. I mixed it in everything. Nothing worked to take that taste away. They never told me how much to take. But it was worth it.

Rosemary, Did you start taking the Tumeric a few days before you started RADS so that it would be in your system when you started? Also, do you know of any of these type of remedies for Chemo mouth sores? Thanks for sharing! Chattie

They told me about it after I began the treatments. It was a very informal study to say the least. I was about a week into therapy. I also used an expensive lotion that might have done the trick also, but who's to say? I did both.

About the mouth sores, I've read this long ago about a Dr. who's son had mouth sores, he recommends a 0.63% stannous fluoride rinse which your Dentist can prescribe or order for you:

I also read two Dr. talking about mouth sores and they talked about this which is found in vitamin stores. GNC sells it but their brand is loaded with sugar:

Glutamine
Some doctors, including Susan Shurin and W. Mark Roberts have found that glutamine, an amino acid, might help prevent mouth sores and inflammation of the mouth and throat.15, 16, 17 Although glutamine’s effectiveness has not yet been proven, Dr. Robert's is encouraged by the recent studies.69 Dr. Shurin finds that many of her pediatric patients do benefit from glutamine during therapy. Dosages vary between 24 and 30 grams per day; the usual dosage is 0.5 gram per kilogram of weight. Ask your doctor how much is best. There’s currently a clinical trial in Phase II. For information about the trial, contact Dorothy Austin at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Phone: 913-588-3643. Email: daustin@kumc.edu. Glutamine is easily available in most pharmacies or can be ordered from The Vitamin Shoppe (Web site: http://www.vitaminshoppe.com. Phone: (800) 223-1216. fax: (800) 852-7153.)

The Dr.s were talking about it being a swish and spit that you would do 3-4 times a day, but the above is saying to ingest it. That I would ask your Dr. about.

The lotion I used is called RadX Radiation Therapy. I think it's used at M.D. Anderson also. It's non-greasy and bless them, it has a pain killer in it.

I took curry and grapeseed extract. I didn't burn at all. When I went to have skin-sparing mastectomy, PS was surprised at how normal my radiated breast was. It was a little firmer than the other and the nipple turned a little darker and firmer...but that was it.
