Cell phone caution:reverse phone# Google search

I got this from a friend. I think the largest concern might be with your personal cellphone. One person said he was able to locate his personal cellphone within 100 yards via Mapquest with just his cellphone number, Google, and Mapquest.

Note there are a lot of other databases that can contain your personal info that are not removed by this search, and I don't know how to deal with them. I don't know if they include cell phone number data.

Google has implemented a nationwide reverse telephone book. With it you to type a telephone number into the search bar, click enter, and are given the person's name and address. This works for both land lines and cell phones. If you then click on MapQuest, you can get a map to the location of the phone.
The safety issues are obvious...
I tried a few phone numbers of about ten people I know, and was amazed with what came up; some email addresses were included. But not everyone I tried is listed. If you do not have an Internet presence, your phone number will come up, but you may not be listed.
You can have your phone number removed or blocked. I filled out the removal form, and encourage all of you to do the same.
To test whether your phone number is mapped and remove yourself from a listing:
? Go to Google at http://www.google.com
? Type your phone number in the search bar (e.g. 555-555-1212) and click "Search".
? Click "Phonebook results for (the number)".
? To block Google from divulging your private information, click "Request to have your name
removed from this list."
? Repeat with all your phone numbers.

Removal takes 48-hours.

google phone book has been around for a while. If you're in the regular phone book, then this is no different. However, if you have a blocked number in the regular phone book, you shouldn't show up in the google phone book.

having Problems on Our PC????
Many are having problems and say it might be photo bucket
But I have found that not to bee the problem with mine, and other sisters on This Board!! Should we get in touch with the TECK. dept. here??? It is really not a big deal, but the only time mine and some of my sisters go down is after comming on this site!!!
Thank You for any help You can give! My son helps me, but some have no one, and not enough money to get the PC fixed!

I don't think there is likely any connection between google phone book and PC problems with this site.

I checked out the google phone and it doesn't include Canadian numbers, unless those numbers on listed on a website.

I only have a cell phone and it doesn't trigger any results. I knew that there were more advantages to getting rid of my land line other than avoiding an unnecessary bill!

I suspect this Google search problem is independent of computer system software because the person who said he could locate his cell phone within 100 yards almost certainly has a Mac (as do I). I would guess that most modern computer systems would be capable of doing a Google search.

I do not personally have a cellphone, so I cannot verify. However, some of the other databases say they do not include cellphone numbers.

It may not be of concern or relevant to people. But I just wanted to put it out in case it is.

For example, in this column, the writer (or someone in the column) was the victim of identity theft, and thought for everyone, the issue was not if, but when.

Its very easy to remove your number... I look at it as a virtual phone book.

Until third party marketing companies start calling my cell phone, I'm okay with my phone number being published. Thats the beauty of caller ID--
