No, never heard of that. My docs say the denseness disappears after menopause, or is she on some type of hormones?

Nope no hormones, lots of prednisone for RA tho. I'm questioning she really knows what she's saying but don't want to call her on it, I could certainly be wrong.

I've always heard that the breasts get less dense with age. In fact, I believe my onc told me mine would (I'm one of those who had extremely dense breasts when diagnosed, and they still call them dense).

    BTW, happy birthday Dotti!

    LOL, Patrice.

Mine are dense. Maybe this AI will make it (only have one) less dense. That would be a good thing.

I was 60 at diagnosis. Breast were very dense due to hormones.
In April 2007, after being off hormones 1 1/2 years, was told my breast "looked the best" ever on mammo. Not as dense, easier to see. I was 62 in May so I don't think it is due to age; at least not in my case.

For me, I don't ever remember all of this talk about dense breasts. When I was growing up, all anyone ever spoke of was how big or little they were. In the past 10-15 years, though, density has become known as an important, defining characteristic. And, it turns out, my breasts are dense. So it actually seems that they've gotten denser over time but, in reality, it's just that now I know about them being so. Maybe the same thing is so for your friend, Dotti..?

I think you may have a very good point Marin!

Well mine were definitely dense; not only was it reported on mammos, but I could feel all the (normal)'lumpiness'.

When I found the bc lump, the mammo was inconclusive;they said that as my breasts were very dense, it was hard to interpret.Showed up all right on U/S however.

Once I went into chemopause (age 51),it (mono-boob) gradually decreased in density....now it feels really different - not lumpy and quite 'squishy'.

So I really don't think that breasts become more dense with age - rather the opposite. I believe that the decrease in estrogen accounts for the decrease in density.
