As some of you know, I have a 20 year old friend whom I've known since kindergarten who has been fighting leukemia for 6 years. Well, she has now been given 6 months to live (that was a month ago).
I am trying to find her a book of compilations of people's stories who have lived beyond what their doctors thought they would.
I've told her about some amazing people here and have told her that the number is just a number, not a fact.
If I can't find a book, I will compile one for her, but thought maybe someone has seen a book like this.
Hugs & thanks
Peggy

Peggy - I think what you're doing is fabulous and I wish I had a book to point you to. I haven't seen one... I hope Jess outlives what her doctors are predicting and that she enjoys each and every one of those days ...

How wonderful. The Lance Armstrong book is very encouraging.

Peggy.... I think I PMed you once... I grew up in Kelowna..
In fact, in Rutland. So I recognize the newspaper...
Anyways, I can't think of any truly inspirational book for cancer per se... but have you ever heard of "The Power of Now" ? It is a great book for the spirit.
And logically, high spirits will help.....
God bless

Thanks for the ideas ladies...yes, Wendy, we pm'd...remember, I said if you ever wanted to plan some sort of surprise I would help you out?
I think I've decided to make a book for her...I've started by taking quotes and things that people have written in the inspirations thread...it's going to be pretty cool.
Hugs

A book that I've not read, but, have heard about comes to mind..."I'm Alive and the Doctor's Dead"...if I remember correctly, it's a book about a woman who was diagnosed with bc and told she didn't have long to live...she's still alive and has now out lived the doc who gave her the grim prognosis.
Sending prayers up for your friend.

In www.prevention.com I remember reading about a lot of people who were given months to live and 10 or more years they are fine. I know it is there and I hope you find it.

A great book is "When God and Cancer Meet" by Lynn Eib. Barnes and Noble.com has it.
It put everything into prospective for me. Out of any book, that book did it for me and let me tell you, I read ALOT of books when I was in treatment, constantly looking for an answer.
Good luck.

Peggy: My dear friend! I had to think for a while, about inspiring stories. Being a nurse for 37 years - I have seen alot.
The first story I thought of when I was a young student nurse. There had been a bad car accident in the community and this one girl, 17 years old was basically comatose. She was assigned to me and things didnt look good. There was "severe brain" damage. They actually said she would live like a vegetalbe the rest of her life. They even talked about stopping all treatment. One year later, as a graduate nurse - I got to observe her walking out of the hospital talking about her experience.
One must never give up hope. Yet when a doctor actually gives us a time frame, we lose all hope. How does her doctor know if she will be the rare case that will surprise everyone.
So hope - I send you and your friend hope.

Thank you all so much for the suggestions. Giant hugs to V and Nicki!! Love you both so much!
I'm not sure how I'm going to compile yet. Victoria, the altered book sounds fabulous BUT I am very intimidated and I feel that the time factor is working against me. Having said that, I will definitely be making an altered book in my future...they look so cool!
Love you all,
Peggy
