Flashdif, that is interesting. My ps never mentioned anything to me about having to take antibiotics before dental work. I have an expander and am going for exchange surgery at the end of this month. I will definitely ask the ps when I go in if she recommends this.

I know that many dentists had you take pre-treatment (even pre-cleaning) antibiotics if you had any sort of heart condition or such. Now, they seem to be getting away from that because they are finding that we all force more bacteria into our blood streams daily from just brushing and flossing. Esp. if you ever see blood when doing those things. Here's a link to read about it: http://heart.health.ivillage.com/newsstories/antibioticsmaynotbeneededbeforedental.cfm

After I talk to my ps, I will report back here. It'll be the end of August.

Shannon - Is that true about not being able to be an organ donor after cancer??? I just renewed my license and there it is. I guess it's up to the pathologist to decide if my organs are acceptable....

Tina - It looks like Margerie answered your question. There are so many diseases that affect our oral health. Cancer seems to be one of them. when I went for my cleaning the day before starting chemo I learned SOOO much from the hygenist. And when I went back afterward some of the problems I'd had had cleared up. She chalked that up to better oral care during chemo and thinking that some of the problems might have reflected the stress that my body was going through as it was trying to fight the cancer on its own.

i think in general it's a good idea to let all providers know what's what because they all see us from a different perspective and knowing what other medical problems you have helps them to do their job better. Same goes for the optometrist or ophthalmologist.

    Chemosabi-

You've hit the nail on the head! For me, the worst part of checking "yes" in that box is the fact that it slams you right back into reality - as much as you try to move on with your life and not make breast cancer such a big part of it!

The old "because of your history we need to ......" throws a jolt through my system every time - the fear comes right back!!
