mom has completed 3 cycles of the oral chemo xeloda. She has intense itching from the top of the head through her back and around her stomach. Doctor has her currently on benadryl, she is stage IV, with mets to bones and lungs. Has anyone heard of this?

mk24 sorry to hear that, my mother also has stage IV bc with mets to liver and bone, she is taking tykerb and xeloda but she has not had any itching. Could she be having a reaction to the chemo.

They think this is a reaction to chemo. Scheduled for scans next week to see if treatment is working. If xeloda is to continue we need to find someway to treat this side effect or she can't continue. It is that uncomfortable.

Is she on a pain medication? I took Vicoden and after pill number 3 the intense itching started. I was up all night with the itching. I found that is one of the possible reactions of that drug. Tossed it and got a different pain killer.

Thanks for the info. She is now on percoset, but has been down to a pill at night (luckily). She was on it way before the itching started. I'm glad you found something else for the pain.
