While doing a trial for Aroplatium at MD Andersin Houston the audiologist who was testing my hearing through out this trial for hearing loss. (all platin drug can do this) He told me if I did Cisplatin next that research showed there was 75-100% chance of long term hearing loss. Due to the fine hairs in your ears that do not grow back after taking this drug. Did any of your doctors tell you this?

I did not have cisplatin, but I seem to have hearing loss. I had Taxotere/Cytoxin.

My doctor didn't tell me this verbally but it was in the information he handed out prior to starting cisplatin. It said if you have ringing in your ears it could be the start of hearing loss, especially if the ringing in your ears kept on for a long time or got worse. I had ringing in my ears and told him about it. He was asking me all the time if it was better or worse. Fortunately for me it didn't continue after chemo was done and it didn't get any worse.

My oncologist chose carboplatin because of a reduced chance of harming my hearing. I don't start that one for 3 more rounds, so no actual first hand account. Just repeating what I was told. Sorry.
