Abnormal Pap
Well hell this is the last thing I thought would happen, but my pap came back abnormal and I need to have a coloscopy (I think that's what it is). Any thoughts ladies? Have you had an abnormal and it was fine? Of course my mind is leaping to worse case senerio. What could make it be abnormal beside cancer and HPV - which can lead to cancer.

Back when I was starting treatments I was told to get a PAP prior to Chemo as Chemo could give some wrong results. Not sure what your status is in relationship with Chemo but that could be a possibility

Hi,
One time I had to go back 3 times after a pap smear. Sometimes they just can't tell and are extra cautious. I have several friends who were told what you were and everything was ok in the end. Good Luck!

My 20 year old daughter was just called in for an abnormal pap, had culposcopy, everything was fine! I think they are just extra careful now days!!

Can't the pregnancy hormones sometimes cause that? Not sure, but seems I've heard that. Hope everything is fine.

Jill,
I had a call back for an abnormal pap in May. Did a coloscopy (sp) and everything was normal. Sometimes a pap can give a false neg or positive. From what I was told there are many things that can give you an abnormal pap.
(Inflammation, Infection, Perimenopause etc...) Try not to worry and hang in there. Good Luck!

Prior to chemo, I ALWAYS had abnormal PAPs and had to have a colposcopy each time. My understanding of the findings was that there were always 'pre-cancerous' cells, but nothing to worry about. One time they recommended a D&C, but that was right before my bc dx. Now, since chemo, my PAPs have been completely normal! Go figure.
Jill, between bc and childbirth, I'm sure that your gyno system is a little screwed up. Just get the test...it'll be fine.

I've had several abnormal paps. Several biopsies, freezings, etc. Never any cancer, just some "suspicious" areas called dysplasia. Try not to worry; most likely it's some kind of slightly abnormal cell that can be taken care of with a simple office procedure.

Thanks everyone. I just can't stop crying right now. I hate this crap (sorry). I'm just tired of health stuff.

I have had abnormal paps, worst part was it was years back when my husband was in the military. The lab that read the results had been just sending out results without really reading them. My gyn thought I had invasive cancer when he saw my pap. Did colposcopy & cone biopsy and it was all pre cancer cells. Had them for years and they developed into nothing. Just goes to show a bad pap does not mean anything really bad. Besides you just had a pregnancy, if something was really bad they would have probably picked it up then. Hope it turns out to be nothing but a good reason to clean out your eye ducts.

It seems very odd to me that they are doing a pap so soon after childbirth. Inflammation can cause an abnormal pap.
I've had one and it was nothing. Lots and lots of women have abnormal paps.
How is the PPD? This can't help. -
No this isn't helping the PPD but I'm hanging in there. I do have many LESS crying times, so that has been wonderful
