Here is a link to tell you what L-Glutamine is.

Before you start to take it, you should have your Amino Acids checked. It's a simple blood test but will tell you if your low in any of them or not.

Thanks for the info a bit worried though if it has antioxidative effects during chemo.

Hi Joanne-
Glutamine has saved me in the past!!! I was having HORRIBLE problems with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). I was not digesting my food, and having terrible diarrhea for a long time. Nothing helped. I went to my health food store, and the lady there told me to take glutamine every day. Supposedly it builds up the lining of your stomach and prevents and/or fixes "Leaky Gut Syndrome". Lo and Behold, my stomach went completely back to normal! It was incredible and a direct reaction to the Glutamine (because I wasn't doing anything else at the time). My Brother-in-Law is an Internal Medicine doctor and uses alternative medicine as well (He and my sis own a wellness clinic in Wisconsin). When he first started using alternative medicine, I told him how well this worked. He started suggesting it to his patients and told me that every he was having fantastic results! I know there are other uses for it, but this one really worked for me. I did this before I ever had BC.
And it has NO antioxidative effects during chemo. It is not an antioxidant, it is an amino acid.

Hi, Mitzi
Glad to hear the L-Glutamine worked for IBS.
There's one thing in your post that I would disagree with--it's true that L-glutamine is an amino acid and, in that form, not an antioxidant, but it is converted in our bodies to form a potent antioxidant called glutathione
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glutathione
Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide. It contains an unusual peptide linkage between the amine group of cysteine and the carboxyl group of the glutamate side chain. Glutathione, an antioxidant, protects cells from toxins such as free radicals.[1]
