I wouldn't suggest taking high doses of vitamin D without a physician's approval. One side effect of vitamin D toxicity is a metallic taste in the mouth. As previously mentioned my dose is once weekly. I believe it is crucial to get your vitamin D level before increasing the amount you take of vitamin D.
I know this sounds absolutely crazy (I'm an RN and was certainly skeptical in the beginning that this would work to the extent it did) but before I starting taking the vitamin D I was considering buying a walker. I had considerable trouble even walking around my house. I was in so much pain that I could not ride in a car unless I was lying in the back seat. Even sitting on my sofa was very painful. I spent most of my day lying on my left side as it was less painful than the right. The last 2 months before I starting taking the vitamin D I was becoming less and less mobile because of the pain. In March I had to quit my job.
I truly believe this medication is the reason my health has improved. I would sincerely encourage any woman with unexplained bone and joint pain, especially in the hips and shoulders, to obtain a vitamin D level. It is rather expensive as mine ran around $250.00 which my insurance paid most of, however, well worth the money.
