I am beginning to think I'm cursed!

I have posted all my woes with my forms…them not fitting right, hating the bras, pressure sores on my dog-ears…. blah, blah, blah…

Well after wearing my lightweight forms in camis for about 4 months and not being happy with how I look (though it is very comfortable) I decided to give my expensive silicone forms another try. I wore the things 2 days when one EXPLODED while I was wearing it!

Mine are Jodee Sincerely Lite forms. They are the lighter weight silicon forms and the “skin” split open in a Y shape across the whole front of the boob and began leaking all the whipped liquid stuff out! What a mess! And of course I was in a meeting and the damn thing was practically disintegrating while I sat there….Grrrrrrrr!

My fitter is only open 5 hors a day, when she happens to get off the butt and open the shop. I was hoping to never have to deal with her again, and now I have to deal with this. Can you tell I am more than a bit angry??

Does anyone else have these Jodee forms? Have they ever broken open while you were wearing them? I have a bilat mast, so if I get something different I have to get both of them, but I really don’t want to replace this one if they have a habit of freaking BLOWING UP.

I am beginning to feel like the whole industry that makes and fits these forms is a scam to get even more money out of us. I wish I was brave enough to go flat….

    Deb,
I am so sorry you had to go through such an experience.
I go flat and love it. I feel so free. May I suggest trying it for a week then make up your mind.
    Flat or formed.

I never deal with bra straps or having to order anything.

Good luck when you have to go face to face with "the fitter" (why do I think of "Jaws" music with "the fitter?)

I am 14 days post bilateral mastectomy and back to work 3 days now. I never even dreamed of buying forms. Thankfully, there were a few threads and a generous poster who took pix and posted them to see how things would look.

Maybe it is the brazen, opinionated, angry, feisty part of me, but I don't think I will ever wear them. I've actually stopped my male co-workers in the hall, jutted out my flat chest and called out "look, the new me!" It is funny that it is harder for the men to accept and imagine what I'm dealing with than the women.
I find the only difficult thing to accept is how "invisible" I am to men now. I used to be a 34D and could count on guys stopping ..to look, say hi, talk, glance..etc. and now, it is truly as if it is just another guy walking by.
I agree, in a way, it is freeing.
When I had to walk past a group of men, I was always so self conscious about my breasts. Now it is a non-issue.
My husband has actually told me I look thinner, younger and fitter...and I really only need to accept myself and be glad that my hub thinks this is just a blip in our life (overall).

    I say DO IT!
I think many of us "go out flat" gals have posted that few people even notice. When I go grocery shopping or to places that don't know I had big boobs, no one even takes second look.
This is YOUR life and it is maddening and angering enough to be dealt the BC card. I will be dam#ed if I worry what the world thinks of my chest.
    Whew...thanks for letting me vent

Deb~ I remember that picture of you in Hawaii. Remember the one?? It's that magical day when you were walking on the beach with you wonderful husband and you forgot to put on your forms. You never looked more beautiful or happy.
I hope that you find some comfort soon whatever it may be.

Of course, this is coming from someone in the midst of the equally uncomfortable reconstruction process. I wish I could have been comfortable without. I admire those of you who can flaunt your flatness and be proud.

    Deb,

That really sucks. It's bad enough to puncture a form (which I've done), but to have it spontaneously open up--that's ridiculous! I had Nearly Me Lite forms and I was trying to put one in a bra with a small pocket opening. I had no idea how easy it would be to puncture it with my fingernail, but it turned out to be quite simple (LOL). I didn't have the issue of being in public, but I did have to go back to my fitter. I didn't like her and hadn't planned to return. But she was actually very nice about the problem and Nearly Me honored my warranty (even though the break was arguably my fault). The fitter had to order a replacement as she didn't have another one in stock. While I waited, she had a very simple temporary solution--she covered the punctured part with Scotch magic tape. In my case, the silicone hadn't oozed out, so that fix was possible.

In your situation, I might feel insecure continuing to use the Jodees, since the break happened for no reason. Hopefully, your warranty will enable you to return at least the damaged form and get your money back for that one if you want to try another brand. I since have bought Airway Tritex Triangles (which are silicone with a soft microfiber back which keeps me cool). I haven't had any problems, puncture-wise. They don't seem quite as fragile.

A fitter I recently met (who didn't try to sell me anything) told me the three "major" companies are Amoena, Tru-life (also called Camp), and Airway (now owned by Anita, a European company). She referred to Nearly Me and Jodee as "lesser" brands. Interesting that we each had one of the "lesser" brands break on us.

As for going flat, maybe one of these days, but I just don't have the comfort level to do that yet, though I admire you women who do. I compromise by wearing size 2's, which are very comfortable for me, rather than larger sizes, which aren't.

Totally apart from the "flat" issue I agree with Barbara that your form isn't that old and the warranty should be honored.

Well, they instantly replaced the form...or at least ordered a new one. It was not in stock. The fitter was very nice and even though she has been a pain in the past, she was very helpful today. She must have noticed I was seeing red...LOL.

I wish I could have taped it up, but the split was a Y shape with each leg of the Y being about 4 inches long, all split open and leaking...what a MESS! I will wear my foam forms until next week when the new one comes in.

The fitter also told me that if my Doc writes me a new script I can get new forms as often as he says I need them and my insurance will pay. Since the doc is my friend, I can get a new script...SO I think I will try another shape and manufacturer soon.

Thanks for all the support. I think I just need to get in a better frame of mind with all of this. I am not ready to do the “flat” thing all the time, but maybe I need to test it out some days and see how I feel. How twisted is that??? My friends and neighbors will NEVER know which look I will show up with! LOL

Lini- thanks for the reminder of that Hawaii feeling…I need to get back too that…made me smile to think of it.

OK…I’m better and able to laugh at my silly self again. Thanks for, once again, being there to catch me when I slip.

    Deb,

You know what? I bought Amoena forms and then bought cheap, indestrucible Pals forms as a back up. I lead a very active, rough lifestyle and live where I do not have a fitter or insurance to cover a replacement for the Amoena. I would suggest getting a pair of Pals as a back-up and as it turns out, I usually wear those when I am at home. I save the fancy Amoenas for when I go out.

    ddd-
Can i ask what shape of the pals did you get and did they have nipples? I looked at the web site, and it looks like the triangle forms would work for me, but the size I would need only comes with nips….not sure if I want to deal with headlights again…LOL

Could you tell me a bit more about them and what you like about them?

    Thanks!

I got the triangles with nipples. I don't mind headlights, I guess. Depends on how tight or transparent your blouse is, they seem subtle to me. The only downside is that they do have weight similar to silicone.

I called the company and told them I needed Pals for mastectomy. They forwarded me to someone who helps mastectomy patients. I was looking for a slightly smaller size than they sell and they told me they could make custom forms for mastectomy. I didn't have time to wait for those but it is an option! At least you can call them and talk to them, maybe they can make a form for you without nips.

What I like best is that they will never break, and they cost what a form should cost.

I am an overweight woman who wishes she had a bilateral instead of a mastecomy on one one side and lumpectomy on the the other. I sooo wish I was just flat on both sides rather than my prosthesis.
