I finished rads in April and am still having some soreness in the chest and rib area under the rads area. It is really when I press on the bones, not painful at an other time. Has anyone else had this? Should I be worried? I worry about every little thing as it is. I sometimes wonder if I am just doing too much....lifting my 20 lb grandson, working in the garden etc. Any help here would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ann

I had the same thing several months after finishing rads. I think it is pretty common. BUT...I was so worried about it that I did see my doc. She really thought is was related to rads but sent me for an xray. Nothing showed up and eventually the soreness subsided. I believe it is caused my an inflamation between the ribs.

If you are worried, call the doctor. That's what they are there for!

    Ann,

I finished rads almost two years ago and I still have some soreness in my rib area. I don't think it will ever go away. I just have to remember not to press on it and I am fine.

Unless the pain worsens I do not think you need to worry. As far as lifting your grandson, pretty soon he will be more than 20 pounds and then you might consider not lifting him.

Thanks so much. You all know how every little thing makes us worry. I will call my rads Dr. and see what she says. Thanks again,

Oh wow. I just posted a similar message on the rads topic. My ribs are still sore and I finished Feb 22 and I take daily anti-inflamatory. Same thing here. It's when pressure is applied. Thus when I lie on that side and then move, it hurts.

    It not just me!?!?

I saw your post and was also glad to see that it is not only me. Of course my first worry is that something else is wrong. I am relieved but I still think I will call my rads Dr.

Ann I finished rads 3 years ago and still have the tenderness. You are also now more prone to chostochondritis, which is inflammation of the cartledge around your ribs. Hurts like heck. Very annoying, quite normal.
Truly annoys me that rad docs don't tell us this stuff. All I ever heard was thats not a side effect of radiation Mrs Larson. I say baloney, they need to start listening to their patients and get there noses out of the studies.

Well, I have it too. And it has been three years for me too.

That is so amazing. I had no idea that it could last for years. Mine is certainly better than it was a few months ago, but I do hope it goes away one day. I wonder if some steroids would help..........

I had back pain until chemo. I think all of those steriods they gave me fixed my back.

Just to know that I am not alone with all of these weird pains and side effects, has really saved me mentally. It feels as if I have a large clump of clothing under my ribs when I try to sleep on my side. I finished rads at the end of March and now I'm doing femara and herceptin. I feel like all I do is complain. I know that my dh must be getting tired of hearing me but he says he isn't.
Thanks to you all for the info and a having this great place to vent.

    Yep....me too!

I finished RADs last November and mine still huts all the time if I press it and sometimes if I don't! I can no longer sleep on that side or even wear a very tight bra.

It's normal, but it still stinks...

I am glad I found this topic here, today has been an awful day. I am scared I have bone cancer now. My lower side below my hip is so sore to the touch.my chest around my breast. I am doing radiation right now, 3rd week is done. I am thinking the worst. does anyone have this going on with them. I dont have anyone to talk with since I had my lump removed in october of 08 and nobody has experienced this in my family, I feel so alone.
