Do you think this is offensive

I was listening to the radio on my favorite station, 102.9 wmgk the one of the hosts said something about Rosie wanting to host the price is right. He ssid instead of the show case showgirls they would have dyke broadway biitches. I was so upset that I started to cry. Why is this ok? I called the station to discuss my feelings and the program director wholeheartedly agreed with me, saying that the guy was leaving because of comments like this and he would talk to him about this particular comment. I'm glad he validated my concerns and I told him I sure didn't want to turn it into an "Imus" or a federal offense. I guess I was the only person who called (so far) which kind of bugs me. Do you think I was being overly offensive. If he hadn't used the word "dyke" I'd have been fine with broadway biitches.

    No..that is offensive and rude....

My dad's friend was talking about the big breasted women in TX and then he said, no offense, to my mom..I told her she shouldve't said, well I heard the men had big ....oh, no offense to your small one..hehehehe
People are sometimes rude just to get a laugh...
I don't know why Rosie's sexual preference defines her to some people....It shouldn't matter

    Amy,

Yes, that was an offensive comment. Personally, I also think the term "bitch" is demeaning to ALL women when used in that manner regardless of their sexual orientation. I wouldn't be ok with Broadway Bitches either.

I agree with Ferne. That was very offensive and sexual orientation whould not matter one way or the other. I am glad you called the station. It really upsets me that other people think that they can talk about people just because of their sexual preferences. Everyone just needs to get along and live and let live. I would have to keep lisenting to make sure they get rid of the guy. Bonny

The reason I don't agree with this is because I don't think immediate firing is the best way to effect change and open the dialogue on what we find offensive. Gays don't have an Al Sharpton (thankfully, the guy annoys me) speaking out about how we want to be addressed and I think immediate firing shuts the door on this and doesn't allow the "offender" to grow and change from the incident in a noncombative way.

I guess I should have also been offended by the "bitches" comment too, but since some of the female comedians I like to say it, it's hard for me to say who can and can't use the word. I personally wouldn't use it to describe a group of people-- just one or two select individuals to a friend-- not publically (even if I think it ).

    PinkribbonAmy!
You are so from the Philly area (I recognized the call letters right away). Back when I lived there 103 was sort of a mellow station. Apparently your offensive DJ thinks he is Howard Stern. Rough crowd in Philly, takes a lot to offend 'em!

Now 102.9 is oldie's rock--go figure. I never listen to that shock jock stuff, this guy just made an off the wall comment.

Yes, I think it was offensive. BUT, it think it was just an off the wall "mistake" comment made too quickly but a true reflection of what the general public thinks of Rosie. Sorry Amy, I think you're great but can't stand Rosie. It has nothing to do with being gay or straight. In fact I wish she wasn't gay. Poll after poll has been taken about Rosie and she doesn't fare well at all in the public eye. She is an embarrssment to all women period. She's in the news again today, more controversy involving her child. This woman is just not liked. He should NOT have said what he did. I believe these people in public broadcasting have to be very careful and think before they say something. I would hate to see him lose his job or they make it like the Imus thing. That was another slip of the tongue comment that should never have been said in public. Probably the reason you were the only one to speak up to the radio station is maybe you are her only fan in Philly? Lol no offence.
Peace and love to all. "I" don't believe in discrimination when it comes to BC. One hand holds another of our sisters in this battle and think most everyone feels this way.

Pickle the comment didn't bother me because it was about Rosie, the comment bothered me because the word has is insulting to me. It would have effected me the same way no matter who he used the word about, famous or not famous. IMHO what he said was as bad or worse than the Imus comment, but I also agree he shouldn't be fired, but educated. He wasn't fired for that slur, but from what I understand a series of similar comments about other minorities. About the "polls" and Rosie, none of those are scientific polls, they're polls using a nonrandom sample of people who happen to be reading a particular website--which is certainly a biased sample. Rosie doesn't appeal to everyone, but she has a huge following of people who agree with most of what she says and does. There are a lot of us out there who adore Rosie and don't make up our opinions about her based on what others are saying about her. I didn't like the picture of her daughter, but understand why she posted it. I wouldn't have done the same.
I'm interested that you've only posted twice since signing up and you chose this post to respond to. What drew you to the post, just curious.

Gosh, there's probably 1000+ people on the discussion boards and most of them haven't posted once! Some just don't share their problems I guess. Your post? Maybe the offensive title I suppose, can't remember. I read many posts. Maybe I wondered if it was another discrimination thing, (which I don't find in people with BC) or maybe was hoping it wasn't about Ro*ie for once. I can't really recall. But anyway, yes the D word is offensive to me and no, it shouldn't have been said. Hopefully he learned from his mistake and will keep his personal opinions to himself.
Maybe I better do the same and go back to lurking. Sorry if I upset anyone. We all need our strength to fight to this battle and remain healthy. It's a hard road.

I'm really glad you haven't found discrimination among breast cancer survivors. You're quite fortunate. This isn't post isn't about Rosie, she wasn't even one of the people he referred to in the comment.
I was just curious as to why you chose this post to reply to, I'm not sure why you replied so defensively, it was just a question.
