Lumpectomy on radiated breast

Options
Not sure if this is where I should post but here goes. I found a lump in my scar tissue that just doesn't feel right. I showed it to my onc and she said we should take it out since it so close to the surface and it is in the same spot as the original tumor. So my question is will it heal ok since I have had rads? Also can it be cancer this soon after treatment? Thanks,
Jackie

    Hi Jackie -

I've read that bc can return even in mastectomy scars, so I think it could occur in a lumpectomy scar ... Hopefully, your lump is just scar tissue ... but good to get it taken out and checked.

Since plastic surgeon's can do mastectomy after lumpectomy and radiation, I would think that going back in on a lumpectomy scar shouldn't be a problem and it should heal fine.

I don't know how long it's been since rad'tn for you ... For me, just less than one year after finishing rad'tn, I had a recurr ... actually, that was when I found it ... the radiologist misread my mamm two months prior (and it was visible then).
