"Probably" benign mammo, and pain

I have had pain in my rt breast and armpit for a couple of months, and it seems to be worsening - it's not bad enough to interfere with my day, but sure noticeable. There is a small lump, but I am always lumpy and can't say if it's new or old. I had a mammo w/US done, and the results read "probably benign", "noted density possibly secondary to lymph node", and was told to watch the lump and have another mammo in 6 months. I have had no noted skin changes or rash, but I do feel slight burning once in a while in both breasts, similar to how it felt when breast feeding & your milk would let down.

Is pain only ever a sign of this disease? Thanks in advance for any advice you give, I really appreciate it.

Probably a biopsy would be the best way to go rather than monitoring the lump. I did have a burning feeling in my breast as well as under my arm. Doesn't necessarily mean cancer, but I did have that feeling like when your milk would let down.

For peace of mind I'd request a biopsy.

    Hugs,

Another question - aren't the signs normally only in one side? I only have the pain in one area, but the burning/itching wierd feeling (and it's not that bad) is in both.

You know, my bc was on the right side. However, I had the burning under both arms. I believe it was my lymph nodes reacting to aomething not being ride. I did have positive nodes on my bc side.

Thank you - your posts are very helpful (you convinced me to pursue it). My GYN gave me an appt for Monday am, and hopefully after talking with her I'll either get more testing or sent to someone who can figure it out for me.

I saw my GYN today - she told me I have fibrocystic breasts, without cysts. And that is causing my pain and burning. She agreed that the rt side is much thicker than the left, but she did point out some dense areas on the left side as well. Told me to use Vitamin E & motrin. I hope she's right - I'll give it 2 or 3 weeks & see if I have improvement; if not, I don't think I'll be comfortable with her diagnosis.

I may be way off base, but I don't think a GYN would be who you would want to deal with right now. Could you ask for a referal to a Breast Surgeon, take all your files, and just let them decide if you should have a biopsy or if you should just be retested in 6 months. Kate

I totally agree with Kate. You should see a breast surgeon.

Thank you ladies - I am so frustrated right now. I love my doc and hate to have to keep arguing my point... I'm sure you've all been there. I want her to be right - but that doesn't make her right. Reading the pamphlet she gave me it says fibrous breast should flare up at the time of your period - mine are now constant. But I told her that. I'm going to try her suggestions for a few days & see what happens - if there's something else going on, then I shouldn't have any improvement. I don't have any rash or redness.
