BRCA 1 Positive

Hi, I would like to introduce myself to this board. I had suspected I would be joining and I just found out yesterday that I am BRCA 1 positive. I had the blood test in February and had been dreading the results ever since.

All I know so far is that I will probably be having an ooph soon. The genetics counselor recommended that but did not immediately recommend bi-lat mast. She recommended talking to my BS about mast vs management with MRIs etc.

I am looking for any kind of feedback here.

Please share your stories with me. I am hoping to see lots of survivor stories and gather a lot of good information.

    Dearest Newter,
I'm BRCA 2 positive. I also wanted to introduce you to FORCE: Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered which is an organization devoted exclusively to hereditary breast and ovarian cancer and BRCA. They just had a national conference specifically for BRCA carriers and those with strong family history. I hope that you will check out FORCE as well.

I'd be happy to talk with you, I'm not an 11 year breast cancer survivor and 9 years out from my oophorectomy (which I had at 35).

    You can e-mail me at:

    Warmest regards,
    Sue

    Hi Sue,

    Thanks for responding.

I had already come across the website and have added it to my favorites but I have not given it my full attention yet. I may contact you sometime in the future as soon as I get my head wrapped around this or if I have any quesitons.
