Rib sticking out after mastectomy

Options

Does anyone else have a half dollar sized hard place that feels very boney because it is a bone - a rib that juts out along scar line? It's uncomfortable and not too sightly but like every thing else, I've come to like it. Love will take a while.

I had to poke around to check, but yes, I do feel my rib bone right above the scar line. I don't think of it so much as the rib "sticking out" as much as everything around it is "sunken in".

The "sunken in" appearance after my mast is what surprised me the most!

Thank you for responding. My gyn and plastic surgeon sent me to the surgeon to find out what the hard, bone like thing was to make sure it wasn't a new growth. Surgeon said the bone like thing was indeed a bone - it is one of my ribs and not enough skin was put around it so it literally sticks out.

Bluemerle, I have the same thing. What is interesting is it is on my right prophylactic mastectomy side, not the left modified radical side. For whatever reasons, more tissue was removed on my right side than the left. Possibly that was because they knew I would be having intensive radiation on the left side and needed a little more tissue between rads and my heart?? Don't really know for sure. But I do have a very prominent rib on the right side and several sunk in places between the ribs. I don't think much about it anymore. Doesn't cause any pain and is not noticeable under clothes.

Mine is on the right side also. The right side had a lumpectomy and radiation and then was part of a prophlactic mast. after cancer found in the left breast 11 months later and both breasts were removed. I had immediate reconstruction that failed because of infections on both sides. I then joined the no reconstruction side of the world. In the fall, the plastic surgeon will go in and smooth out everything and hopefully add some extra skin over the rib. I don't wear anything tight as it would show. The whole process soured me on reconstruction and I feel like young girl again just going without. I don't wear a bra just looser things and don't feel self conscious at all.

I wish some of you brave flat ladies could post pictures (in clothes!). I'd love to see the flat look.
