Home from Mastectomy

Options

Well I had my mastectomy w/o reconstruction April 19. I seem to be doing ok. Originally she thought 10 of the 13 nodes were positive, but it turned out only 4 were positive. That was encouraging. Am doing the "drain thing" right now and getting really anxious for that to be removed! Took a Darvocet last night for pain and had horrible nightmares all night. So back to Tylenol and Ibuprofen. Anyway, my goal is to stay POSITIVE, stay HEALTY and enjoy life. Next step is Onocologist. Love to you all and we ARE in this together.

BeckGal - So glad to hear that you are doing well after your surgery. I had mast w/o recon on June 28, 2006. You will not believe how much better you will feel once the drain/s has been removed. It will be a sigh of relief! Do your exercises when you can so you can get your range of motion back. As times goes on, you will feel better and better.

You sound like you are doing good. I hope the meeting with the oncologist goes as well as it can for you.

You are right, we are all in this together and what a wonderful bunch of sisters right here on this board. So visit often and let us know how you are doing, okay?

    Hugs (gentle),
    Cheryl

Beckgal. Pleased your mastectomy is now behind you.
Drains are the PITS, but they too pass, and the relief when they're gone is unimaginable !!
You've got the right attitude, so get out there, look after yourself, and do lots of living.
    Isabella.

    WELCOME HOME BECK.

I am happy to know you are home and have a great attitude.
I was right where you are one year ago this month.
I used extra strength Tylenol too.

    Rest and relax.

Good that you are doing well after your surgery. I wish you well with your chemo. Take those nausea pills! They work!

You hang in there, BeckGal! Yesterday marked 3 weeks from my right breast mastectomy (April 10th) and I am better than fine! Yes those drains are the pits but once they are out, you will feel magnificent and then when the stitches are out, you are on top of the world. I have already been fitted with a prosthesis and bra and things are as near normal as they can be.
I know it's hard to imagine life as normal right now but know that your "sistas" are supporting you and we all wish you a speedy recovery and a ray of sunshine in each of your days. Let me know if I can help in any way. I start chemo on Monday....6 treatments later in October...I hope to be even better. Hugs!

Thanks, Beck, for sharing. I'm 11 days behind you and find your experiences encouraging. My drains are gone, but I'm still bound and still have staples -- best thing so far is finally being allowed a real shower!

WOW, dense ol' ME...I forgot that I am the one who started this post...LOL. And I CANNOT blame "chemo brain" yet. I am at week 3 today. I still have the drains in, but she said I can DRIVE locally. Just no heavy freeway driving. Scheduling appt with ONCO Monday. I was wayyy down yesterday about it. But HEY I overcame the surgery hurdle. NOW for the treatment hurdle.

Thanking you ALL in advance for your response and encouragement. NOW to finish reading the thread. This was a gift from God today..like LOOK here are more helpful hands and hearts for you. Go and do likewise. So here I AM too! Hands, heart and arms extended.
