You have a good time!!! New Orleans is one of my favorite places...DH tells me we might get a free trip in the fall sometime (business related)...maybe we could have a little Spa Girl get-together then.
RULE No. 1: We all have to reach our goal weight first!!! Or else!!!

What link? What link? What have I missed, Miz? Can you give us your link to your art open house again??? I'd love to see it. What kind of art do you make?
That's the Habib Koite CD I bought!!!
Cathy, I'm so glad to hear you are on the mend. Pneumonia after everything else, well, there's no justice. That warm pool sounds so nice, though.
Raye, I want to try Pilates, too, but I know I end up never going to the gym when I join. I bought a Pilates book (for Dummies) and a DVD but haven't made much progress thanks to the latest surgeries. Your comments have put the seed back into my brain, though. Thanks.
Carol, thanks for the sparpspeople reminder. Gee, do I really want to commit to recording my intake. Ack ack ack.

Mary, you are on a roll with the yoga and weights and running! I am seriouslyl impressed. It's good you can reward yourself with JazzFest.
Speaking of NOLA, I have started reading a series of detective novels by Julie Smith (of NO); it's the Skip Langdon series. She also has another Baroness Pontalba series. Some of the characters overlap. Normally I am not fond of mystery novels, but these are pretty darn good. Julie was awarded the Edgar for New Orleans Mourning, the first in the Skip Langdon series.
Prayers for Puppy, girls.

oh, habib is cute to boot!
Mary, enjoy the concert! The Raconteurs - sweet. I love Jack White. The White Stripes are one of my favorite groups! Don't fret - you have time to look great for Mexico (you probably do already).
I only laid off the running for about 1 week before I went back and did the three miles- but still, pure laziness has kept me from running this week.
Have a great weekend all.
-
Tina - I just saw your post - my brain is fried today. Try Denise Austin's Pilates DVD - the blue one. It is very good and you will see results and the best part is - it is not too difficult.
-
Tina, I sent you the link. My brain is ALSO fried today Raye, I've spent the entire day cleaning three and a half bathrooms *and* toilets (how the h*ll could they ever have dreamed that more bathrooms in a house were a *good thing*!!!)and mopping floors and I am totally exhausted. DH is now making dinner and will be bringing it upstairs...why on earth did they invent the idea of 3000 square foot homes about the same time maids went out of style?!!!!
I envy people who have the luxury of ordering and reading the NYT, those were the days...my adolescent days!!!I always thought Denise Austin was pretty slinky....oi vai...and cheerful too....didn't mean to say chunky last night...oops!! gotta watch those post cocktail typos!!!

Sweet dreams...
Miz
-
Mizsissy,
I always read the NYT online.
Cathy and Puppy,
I hope you are both feeling better every day.
Tina,
I hope you are feeling well and back to exercising. Pilates is so hard to do well.
Raye,
A little R and R sounds so nice. I had a two week vacation a couple of weeks ago but the weather was anything but cooperative and we ended up coming home to do chores.
Mary,
I went to Jazz Fest once. It was pretty amazing.
You will look fab on your trip to Mexico.
I ran in our local Race for the Cure yesterday. Two minutes slower than last year but I had a good time; came in 458th or some such crazy number. As I ran by another survivor I told her I thought they would find a cure for cancer before they found a way to make running easier. I envy natural runners. One of the children of a friend of mine is 7 years old and he ran the 5K in 26 minutes and something odd seconds in hiking boots! After the race my friends cooked us brunch, buckwheat pancakes and chicken gravy. Apparently it is a Preston County WV thing. I never would have tried it myself but it was amazingly good.
Take care everyone.

Miz, the 3000SF home. Indeed a quandary. We have about a 1500SF home now, 2 full baths. We're looking for a newer home, but they are all so big!!! We have two people and a big dog. The homes have 2 1/2 or 3 baths - I'm with you and certainly do not want to clean all of those BRs!
Casey - Too bad about the weater on your vacation, stinks. My husband and I head to Ocracoke in July - I hope it's nice for us.
Great job on your run! That is terrific. I understand what you mean about "natural" runners. My brothers - one of which is a track coach and the other who runs marathons (just ran the Boston) - are natural runners - they are twins BTW. Obviously, I didn't get that gene.
Tonight I am going to hit the trail again and try to get back on track.
Have a great day ladies.
Raye

Good morning Sunshine Ladies!!! Happy Cinco de Maio!!! This is an important day in Michigan as well as Mexico, because it is the day that spring really arrives, and what a beautiful day it is. Cherry and lilac trees beginning to bloom, birds chirping, the scent of spirea blossoms...things coming back alive.

After re-reading the last two pages I realize that I have been so stressed for the past month that I was hardly taking in anything that anyone posted and I apologize for not being more responsive. Getting your house ready for a public Open House *and* getting artwork together at the same time you're designing & sewing for a trip is not a great combination of worries and I'm *never* going to do this again!!! But today I feel as light as a feather. I've been wearing my own hair for just about three weeks & loving it!!! Erik and I have *no plans* for the entire summer after next weekend. We're just going sit back, enjoy our house & yard & Michigan and do everything on the spur of the moment.
Casey, so nice to see you back. I'm sorry you didn't have ideal weather in the Outer Banks, but as I remember, it's so darn beautiful there. We used to enjoy all the weather, all the sea's moods...you get this overwhelming feel of Mother Nature being in total control there. We even used to swim in Nor'easters (but that was before Jaws). Good for you for running a race!!
You know, I just noticed how big your dog's head is compared to yours!!! What a giant he is!!! How do you keep him well fed?!
Tina, we are so proud of the way you are coming through your surgeries. You are the model patient. I'll send you some cell phone snaps of HK if I can get away with it.
Cathy, so glad to hear you are recuperating nicely. Don't worry about weight right now..but speaking of weight gals, I saw a very interesting show on one of the health channels about losing weight. It showed studies of people who ate different kinds of foods and how different diets affected appetite, and we right back to the 70s now on diet technology. Protein is the winner. If you eat a diet of low carb and low fat and high protein, you will feel satisifed and less hungry!!! Substantially so!!! Also, here's something interesting. Eating dairy helps you lose weight because the calcium in low fat dairy products actually binds with fat and makes you eliminate via the intestinal tract, rather than metabolize it! They had real scientists actually analyzing human output on a low fat dairy diet and found out that they eliminated twice as much fat as people on an identical diet with fat from other sources...
I am still over 130, but I had so much stress last month I just couldn't exercise very much. This summer we're planning lots of bike rides, picnics, plein air painting, and other outdoor activity!
Mary , we're so jealous of your life in the Big Easy....how lucky you are to have the Jazz Fest so close by. Wouldn't it be nice if we could all meet down there some time!
Carol, great to hear from you and to know that your surgical problems are over with!!!
Raye, you are certainly right about the big house phenomena. All we wanted was a nice yard with trees in a nice neighborhood, but we couldn't buy a house smaller than this. We're finally getting used to it, after about five years of careful organzing. We actually use the whole house. I just wish I had some help house-keeping.
Holly, where are you? Hope you didn't give up on us.
Puppy..you are never long out of my thoughts. I am praying for a wonderful outcome in your sister's surgery today, and gearing up for yours next week. Finally, after nearly eight months of pain, you are going to get the surgery you need, and I am praying it is successful and the last time you have to undergo surgery. Saying special prayers today....
Love to all...

Those are gorgeous pictures, Miz!!! I can smell the lilacs now! Lilacs are not out yet in New England.
Well, I guess there is always something to look forward to. YES! -
Hi All!
Raye- I have a new boyfriend, and his name is Jack White! OMG! He is a rock god!
So, Jazz Fest was really nice- it stayed cool (down here that means 80 degrees) and breezy. I saw some great blues, a little Jazz, a few minutes of Santana and a great set by The Raconteurs. Then the Neville Brothers closed the show. It was their first appearance since Katrina, so it was pretty moving. I live about an hour from New Orleans, in Baton Rouge.
Casey, congrats on the race!
MizS- beautiful pictures!
I think I am going to skip the gym tonight. I believe I can talk my husband and kids into biking to a restaurant. That should burn off the calories from the beer and fried foods we consume!
Mary
-
Mary - What did I tell you about Jack White? That I love him! He is a genius - pure and simple. Glad you had a great time.
I am trying to get my butt into the BR to change into my work out clothes before I wimp out - easy enough to do.
Miz - those pics are so pretty. I planted some rhodadendrons sp?? a couple of weeks ago and cannot wait for them to bloom.
-
Here are some more spring photos...took them all yesterday in front of the house. We have redbud, two shades of dogwood, and two spring creatures...cats with spring fever, enjoying the yard and all the exciting birdcalls...
And that's me with all the terrific thick hair!!! Just taking it all in and inhaling the perfume, and desiring to be no other place than where I was at that moment.
Miz
PS...Raye & Mary, did you know Jack White is from Motown (Detroit)?
-
MizS- great photos, and your hair looks great!
I had a great run last night- my husband actually stopped before I was ready to, and that's a first! I agree with you all- running is not natural. I find every step to be agonizing! I have a short business trip to Austin, Texas Thursday-Saturday. I plan to visit the hotel gym at least once. Two weeks until Mexico, and I have those same 4-5 pounds hanging around my middle that I've been complaining about for almost a year now! Maybe we should just accept ourselves the way we are!
Mary
-
Weight update: I had lost four pounds. Slacked off and had two beers last night. I gained back two pounds!!! Must be retaining fluid because of the beer but I'm back on the WAGON! I just hate this. I am now on the warpath.
Mary, I'm with you on the running. Every time I've tried it, I have felt that it is just not a natural thing for a human to do. At least for THIS human.
I have been back to walking, though, and am pleased about that. It's so hard to get back into a routine, don't you think? We should know by now to make habit our friend. -
Geeezz...I thought I was the slacker here. I'm one of the plumpest for sure, and I don't work out at the gym, but I can run. It's always hard getting going after not running for a while but if you keep it up you just kind of go an auto-pilot. What I always tried was just go for 12 minutes at first, then work up to 15 minutes, then 20 minutes.
Now Raye's a real running pro. She goes for miles & miles!!! I have no idea how!!
Miz
-
Miz, those pics are gorgeous - were they taken in your yard? Your hair looks gorgeous - very pretty indeed. Yes, new about Jack White being a Motowner. Many thought he was British because on his CD Elephant - he sings with a slight brit accent - he's got a great theatrical voice. thanks for the compliment - running pro - not me- slow easy steps, breathe in, breathe out...keep at it, it gets easier.
Mary - accepting ourselves as we are- I love that concept; if it were only that easy. I find with having had bc - I need to work harder to look better because of what I am lacking. Does that make sense? Two weeks until Mexico - you must be so excited. Are you going to the Riviera Maya? I can't remember.
Tina - don't worry too much about the two beers. Not worth beating yourself up over it. and running is hard - very very hard at first. I had more than 2 beers last night and feel horrible about myself today (ah, and telling you not to beat yourself up). Tonight after work, I am running and trying to drink a ton of water today to get that crap out of my system.

Happy Monday....well I'm back, but it looks like you've all gone...whereto?!!!
Had a fabulous weekend. The concert in Arden was wonderful...Habib seemed tired at first, but warmed up, and at the end was at his best. He jumped down off the stage to dance with people...it was a small group, a quiet club out in the country. He is as gentle and generous and kind in person as his music. Got some nice photos...we were very close
After the concert we had a chance to meet & talk with him, and he was more than cordial....
Really enjoyed the DC part of the trip too. Spent a whole day at the newly renovated National Gallery of Art....here is a bad photo of my very favorite painting,"In the Garden" by Dewing. It has an almost magical quality. It is a painting at dusk, with fireflies flitting, and the three women are really the same model, I think the artist's idea may have been to paint one woman in different moods as she reacts from moment to moment in the beauty of the evening..Oh what I would give to paint like this!!!
Maybe...one day.....
Just talked to Puppy this AM...tomorrow is her big day, her major surgery, and we are expecting a very good outcome. We need all your prayers and positive thoughts...
Love you Puppy!!!! Love you all!!!
Miz
-
Hello miz,
Any word on Puppy?
Raye
-
We probably won't hear anything until this afternoon, but I'll update you as soon as I have news.
Linda
-
Yes, please, news about Puppy. This must be so scary for her.
Miz, your art is so beautiful. How do you nourish yourself as an artist? How do you decide which of the wonderful paintings you have in your head you will do next? Choosing must be so difficult.
I want to make buttons. Porcelain or Fimo? Both have advantages/disadvantages. Right now, the biggest disadvantage to porcelain or any "real" clay is the need to fire. I suppose I could find a public kiln for hire. I hear there is a new studio in the area that has multiple members and I think I heard that one could rent kiln time. Of course, buttons are small things. Maybe a small, tabletop kiln would not be too expensive???
Don't forget about reporting on Puppy!!!
-
Oh Tina...I wish I had painted that picture!!! But I didn't!!! I just admired them in DC.
I have a special link for a private caring bridge page we have set up for Puppy with photos & news and where you can post messages to her. Please PM me if you would like the link.

*NEWS ON PUPPY*
I just spoke to Ed, and Puppy is still in surgery. She wasn't taken in until about 11:30 this morning, and they are expecting surgery to last as long as eight hours. The doctor explained to Ed that she has an additional aneurysm behind her right eye that they also hope to repair.
Will let you know when I hear anything else.
Miz
-
Puppy is out of surgery..which went fine!!!! Both aneurysms were repaired. This is very good news, but the key issue is how will she be when she wakes up. Ed said he would call once she woke up and was talking again, but I think the usual situation after such major brain surgery is to keep the patient in an induced coma for several days to allow the brain to heal.
We are watching & waiting...and looking forward to hearing the reassuring sound of your voice again {{{{{dear girl}}}}!!! You are alive!!!
Miz
-
Hi Miz,
I am keeping Puppy in my prayers. I am so glad to hear that the surgery went well. Please let us know when you have an update. Carol
-
Tina,
Your idea to design buttons sounds great...I just luv special buttons!!! Also other accessories like hats & netting & dodads...
Yes, the concert was very small and private. People were friendly, and soon Erik & I became the famous couple who came all the way from Michigan to hear Habib...even Habib was impressed. Someone took pictures of Habib with us & he wrote his email on our CD so we could send them to him!
Spa gals...it's so good to be home. I think the ideal way to to get healthy & lose that extra avoirdupois is to enjoy life & be *relaxed* and unstressed, which is how I plan to be for the next two months!!! No deadlines, just enjoying spring in Michigan & life in general.
Very much looking forward to hearing more good news about Puppy...the worst is finally over!
Miz
-
Just heard from Ed...Puppy is now conscious and has spoken to Ed. She's been through a long ordeal and she's very pale and in pain, but she's alive and aware... she needs our prayers and healing thoughts to get through the next few days.
Linda
-
Oh, thank God.
-
Good Morning Girls...
Just talked to Ed...I have to admit I was a little afraid after hearing the news last night, but the news is very good. Puppy is much more comfortable today and will soon be moved out of ICU into a private room. She is sleeping a lot and when she is awake, she recognizes her family and she and Ed have both been able to tell each other to hang in there!!
Ed says that I may be able to talk to her tomorrow!!!
You go girl!!!! You're coming through this like a trooper....
{{{{{{{{{{{Puppy}}}}}}}}}}}}...so many are holding you in their prayers!!!
