when to schedule mammo 1 year later?

Hi. I was diagnosed with DCIS, er+pr- in April 2006. Had 2 lumpectomies plus 8.5 weeks of rads. The initial mammogram that found the DCIS was in March 2006. But I had several successive xrays, the last in May 2006. When do i schedule my mammo? I remember my surgeon saying May 2007 but i got letter today saying to schedule it. When should it be? I really don't want to deal with it all now.

In most cases, the first post-op mammogram and check-up is at 6 months, not one year. So regardless of whether you count March 2006 or May 2006 as your date, you're due.

It's always nerve-racking, but it's best not to put it off. And think how relieved you'll feel when you get the all clear!

If you had a follow-up mammo in May, I'd say do it in May. The letter probably came from the mammo facility which has you regularly scheduled in March. Best wishes!

My regular mamo was in Sept last year -- but since I switched mammo centers I couldn't get in till Decemeber and they found second tumor - small 3mm near lumpectomy site. So I am glad the mammo was postponed. May not have been spotted in Sept.

But I did go to a place that has a new 'digital' mammo - not for sure that is what it's called. But it uses less radiation - faster - and they can make a million copies without distorting anything in picture. Supposed to be more accurate as well.

So the delayed mammo I think was good luck for me - if not found in regularly sceduled visit in Sept, I would have gone another year before next mammo.
