    God's Wings

    A little something to put things in perspective...

    An article in National Geographic several years ago provided an interesting picture of God's wings. After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park, forest rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno's damage.

    One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes, perched statuesquely on the ground at the base of a tree. Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight, he knocked over the bird with a stick.

    When he gently struck it, three tiny chicks scurried from under their dead mother's wings.
    The loving mother, keenly aware of impending disaster, had carried her offspring to the base of the tree and had gathered them under her wings, instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise.
    She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon her babies. Then the blaze had arrived and the heat had scorched her small body, the mother had remained steadfast. Because she had been willing to die, so those under the cover of her wings would live.

    "He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge." (Psalm 91:4)

    Being loved this much should make a difference in your life
    Remember the One who loves you, and then be different because of it.

    May you find serenity and tranquility in a world you may not always understand. May the pain you have known and the conflict you have experienced give you the strength to walk through life facing each new situation with courage and optimism. Always know that there are those whose love and understanding will always be there, even when you feel most alone. May you discover enough goodness in others to believe in a world of peace. May a kind word, a reassuring touch, and a warm smile be yours every day of your life, and may you give these gifts as well as receive them. Remember the sunshine when the storm seems unending.

    Teach love to those who hate, and let that love embrace you as you go out into the world. May the teachings of those you admire become part of you, so that you may call upon them.     In winter

    The yellow bells dance link sunbeams

    on the hillside

    in golden light

    filling me with peace.

    The purple floral eyes emerge

    sparkling in deep amethyst blue

    of promise

    touching my soul.

    By spring

    Thistles replace the sunlight

    the soft violet blooms

    a sharp contrast to the stinging thorns.

    Despair where there was once hope.

    Barbs cut my legs as I pass by.

    The Sacred Path

    The tapestry of amethyst and gray stretches before me,

    A circular path with turns and twists.

    I stand at the entrance with questions:

    Which way do I go?

    Which path do I follow?

    Hesitant to begin the journey.



    Uncertain of what may be revealed.

    A deep breath for courage

    Hands clasped before me in strength.

    A single step forward

    I enter.



    I feel the warm textures of the tapestry,

    A comforting, soothing touch beneath my feet.

    Cautiously, carefully keeping to the narrow path

    Following every changing direction

    Placing one foot, then the next

    Moving closer towards the center.



    This ancient sacred path traveled by many

    in places near and far,

    in times present and long ago,

    I share the experience with those walking,

    A timeless connection to past, present and future.

    All deep in thought, solitude, and contemplation,

    Searching for answers in the midst of confusion

    Lost within the maze.



    My breathing becomes more rhythmic.

    An easy natural rate

    My mind begins to focus on the constant pace

    of walking, breathing,

    of just being.

    All cares and problems abandoned.

    Passing by others, each on their own private quest

    Searching for hopes and dreams,

    for answers to questions that remain unspoken.

    Quietly yielding to those who must stay true to the path.

    but I return anew to the course.



    Step by step, each turn and twist

    I progress to the center,

    closer to finding my truth.

    Steady on the path

    to dreams, to healing, and to answers.

    Cleansing the mind.

    Mending the spirit.

    Healing the soul.



    At the heart of this labyrinth-- a quiet solitude

    A tranquil place to stay, to escape

    A respite from the turmoil of the outside world

    A place of rest and peace, of renewal.



    Time passes swiftly and soon I must depart.

    Reluctantly, I leave this haven

    with a promise to return again.

    A breath to center

    Hands free at my sides

    Silently, steadily

    Don't Believe in Miracles, Depend on Them

    You don't need an explanation for everything.
    Recognize that there are such things as miracles,
    events for which there are no explanations.
    Later, knowledge may explain those events quite easily.

    The fact that you can plant a seed and it becomes a flower,
    share a bit of knowledge and it becomes another's,
    smile at someone and receive a smile in return are common miracles.

    Your duty to yourself is to believe
    that for which you have sufficient evidence,
    and to suspend your judgement when you have not.

    The walls close in around me.
    I feel myself slipping,
    The line between reality and sanity
    blending, fading.
    I walk on the rim
    carefully balancing.
    Taunting, teasing, risking
    dangerously near falling.

    Below me a beckoning abyss.
    Calling me

    Time Tested Beauty Tips

    Contrary to many internet postings and email-go-rounds, Audrey Hepburn didn't write this lovely poem.

    Sam Levenson wrote "Time Tested Beauty Tips" for his grandchild, and it just so happened to become one of Audrey's favorite poems. The poem was then mis-attributed to her, after it was known that she liked it and had read it to her children.

    What if we are not joyful today because we were not thankful yesterday? And what if we are blessed tomorrow because we are grateful today?



    What if we are not inspired and motivated today because we were not committed and disciplined yesterday? And what if we are inspired and motivated tomorrow because we are committed and disciplined today?



    What if we were never able to see a rainbow because we were too busy complaining about the rain? And what if today we couldn’t experience the warmth of the sun because we focused on the coldness of the shadow?



    What if there were no more books tomorrow because we didn’t take the time to read today? And what if there were no life changing tapes today because we didn’t take the time to record our experiences yesterday?



    What if our prayers were not answered tomorrow because we didn’t listen to our heart today? And what if we did not follow our true "calling" today because we did not "hear" the phone ring yesterday?



    What if life does not give you what you want today because you didn’t ask for it yesterday? And what if life will give you anything you want tomorrow if you would simply ask for it today?



    What if you have gotten today ten times what you gave yesterday? And what if you get tomorrow ten times what you give today?



    What if you are not getting the Message today because you didn’t listen to the Messenger yesterday? And what if you don’t get the Message tomorrow because you didn’t listen to the Messenger today?



    What if your life today is a reflection of your thoughts yesterday? And what if your thoughts today are a reflection of your life tomorrow?

    THE LEGEND OF THE DREAMCATCHER.
    "A spider was quietly spinning his web in his own space. It was beside the sleeping space of Nokomis, the grandmother.

    Each day, Nokomis watched the spider at work, quietly spinning away. One day as she was watching him, her grandson came in. "Nokomis-iya!" he shouted, glancing at the spider. He stomped over to the spider, picked up a shoe and went to hit it.

    "No-keegwa," the old lady whispered, "don't hurt him." "Nokomis, why do you protect the spider?" asked the little boy.

    The old lady smiled, but did not answer. When the boy left, the spider went to the old woman and thanked her for saving his life. He said to her, "For many days you have watched me spin and weave my web. You have admired my work. In return for saving my life, I will give you a gift." He smiled his special spider smile and moved away, spinning as he went. Soon the moon glistened on a magical silvery web moving gently in the window. "See how I spin?" he said. "See and learn, for each web will snare bad dreams. Only good dreams will go through the small hole. This is my gift to you. Use it so that only good dreams will be remembered. The bad dreams will become hopelessly entangled in the web."

    I set the table full of food
    And here they come, my hungry brood,
    All flocking down with eager haste,
