I am so excited about the Daytona 500 and 36 races starting tomorrow

I'm a fan of Bobby Labonte, Kevin Harvick, Casey Mears, Jimmie Johnson and Dale Jr.

Any other fans?

Great big fan of any motor sport here.
I love rally cars, F1, F3, motorcross, autocross, banger racing, you name it, and I'll crawl to it if possible !!!
My DD drives in 4WD trials, and I am sponsoring my G/son this season, he's starting to grasstrack race. I'm only sponsoring him to get my name on his car, and the name of my kennels !!! No, the real reason is to try and keep him on the straight and narrow, give him an interest, keep him off the streets!! hope he doesn't crash too much or I will be withdrawing my sponsorship!!!
We get Nascar here, but its always on around 2-3am, and doesn't seem to be in any sequence. Some nights they show 1 race, or highlights, next night it'll be on 3-4 hours, 2 or more races, VERY hard to follow. I only watch when I can't sleep, just wish I could drive like that for so long and not crash my car.
    Also love motorbike racing!! Isabella.

    Isabella,

I am hoping that my niece or nephew(7 yr.old twins) will start to show some interest. If we could get them in go-karts now, they'll be ready for the big time about the time I'm ready to retire. I want to be their spotter

OMG Donna!!! You sound exactly like my hubby. He is such a major NASCAR fan and has been forever. He marks the days on the calender till the season starts again. He puts a list of the races for the season up on the wall. He is a HUGE fan of Dale Jr. and was absolutely devoted to Dale Sr. NASCAR is always on in my house and even tho i am not a sports fan, i do get a little bit interested or maybe curious in it, by osmosis. By the way he talks about them, I think he also likes Jimmie Johnson, Michael Waltrip, and Kevin Harvick. We both boo Jeff Gordon.

I don't watch it enough for any continuity, so i like the little simple things like Tony Stewart climbing the wall when he wins, or that Carl guy doing the flips, however, i dont really care much for that Carl guy, in general. Dale Sr. was my hero too (great image: "The Intimidater" and that mustache and dark glasses), and now i like Dale Jr., but for all the wrong reasons!

I live in the state of Washington and they are trying to put in a NASCAR track here and it has been politically bogged down in the local politics for a long time. If it goes in, my hubby will go crazy i think. He wants to quit his job and go work there (doing what i do not know).

Aren't you the one who also liked the Biffle guy too??

    peace,
    celia

    Celia -

Okay, here's my opinion of the drivers, generally. I'm not a fan of Edwards or Biffle. Actually, I'm an "anybody but a Roush driver" kind of fan

Jeff Gordon has grown on me over the years, so I no longer feel compelled to boo him.

Tony Stewart is a GREAT driver, but a poor sport.

Mark Martin has really started to annoy me by "retiring" 3 years in a row!

Today's race was boring for the first 170 laps, but wow, what a wild and crazy finish!

I was very happy to see Happy Harvick win the race - he looked alot like Dale Earnhardt charging on the outside, seemingly from nowhere, to overtake the lead with inches to go.

And Bobby brought the car home in one piece, which is a major accomplishment for him in the Daytona 500 - I can't remember the last time I saw him finish a plate race without wrecking

Ahhh...I love the smell of those Goodyear tires

My brother and his 2 sons are crazy about Nascar. They loved Dale and that continues with Dale Jr. I know they like others too.

A few Christmases ago DH and I made the older nephew a latch-hook rug of Car #3. He loved it. (It takes a lot of time to do a latch-hook rug and the sport kinda grew on us, so dh and I always listen for the results of the races. I love to say "Teladega.")

I understand from the travel channel that people can drive their cars on the beach at Daytona Beach!

    Ginger,

That is true. In fact, it reminds me of a funny story. The first traffic ticket I ever received was when I was driving on the beach in Daytona during my senior spring break! It was a BS ticket, as I was just getting tired of waiting for the guys in the car ahead of us to quit talking to some girls and start moving again! I went around them, on the right, and the next thing I know there's a motorcycle cop citing me for "illegal passing on the right". Oy! It was only a $25 fine, but I remember wanting to go fight it just on principle...lol...at 18 years old, I had a LOT to learn.

The good news is, I've only received ONE traffic citation since then, and it ALSO was a BS ticket...but that's a story for another day
