I love dog shows. I judged twice at Crufts some years ago.
Always go to Crufts each year here in UK. If I remember correctly it was a little dog who won Westminster that came over and won Crufts, either this, or last show...can't remember a thing nowadays !
Do you have salukis (with your name!) I had the most lovely saluki, a cream, when I was first married, I idolised it, unfortunatly my ex. let it out while I was away, and it went straight under a car, I never forgave him. We lived by the coast then, and everytime I drive that way now, I stop and pick some flowers and put them under the tree where she has been buried for the last 39 years. When I had my daughter, some years later, I called her after my saluki !!!DD will delight in telling people she 'was named after a dog!!' Always said I would have another, but don't know, they take some walking Isabella. -
Hi Isabella,
No I never had a Saluki--Just loved to watch them move but knew better than to get a sight hound that would need that much exercise and like your poor little one would be faster than the wind if they ever got out.
That poor Whippet that got loose on the way home from Westminster last year. The same thing happened at the dog show in Philly a few years back. I'm pretty sure that was a whippet also with an unhappy ending. They are uncatchable
at that speed. I've thought of adopting a greyhound but thought the wiser of it. When I go to the dog shows I always go to the Saluki ring.
Naah I had a Royal Standard Poodle--Seventy five pounds of poodle, gentle, mellow, smart, loving and intuitive and S-t-r-o-n-g. The love of my life. Hardest day was when I held him while the vet euthanized him at 16 years old. He could no longer walk
from arthritis or eat from the anti-inflammatorys.
Still keep his ashes with me.
I have a Bichon now. Small dogs are quite a change. She's like a little child in furry pants and I've really spoiled her but she's so lovable, that its hard not to.
Did you judge the hound group at Crufts. I remember a few years ago when Mick--that beautiful Kerry Blue came here from the UK and Crufts and won Westminster.
I thought the American dog that won Crufts was in the Herding group. Was that last year? Australian sheepdog???
It looks like that Dandie Dinmont Terrier is going to be hard to beat.

Saluki, just wanted to say that I have a 4 year old Whippet. They are fast, but after about 15 minutes of exercise, they are big couch potatoes for the rest of the day. Also, the Whippet loose in New York last year, is still getting comfired sittings in parks, as last as last week. Unreal that she could still be alive.

I love dogs, and I love the Westminster!Since I have never either judged or shown a dog, I havent much constructive to say.
I do have a high schol pal who raises and shows Boxers and Boston Terriers.
And as a girl, my dog Nick was a son of Ch Dreamboy of Chalburn, the Westminster Winner. He wasnt a showdog, though. He was my Nicky.
And I do remember that last year a Bullie took Best of Show--it was Rudy, the Bull Terrier!
Rock on!
love, j -
Hi Saluki.
