I'm SO sad.

Well, he's winning races at The rainbow Bridge now.

What an inspiration. He put up a dignified and valiant fight. I had hoped so much that he would beat the odds and have some QOL after his injury.

Just think of the races they're having up there--Bobby, Lost in the Fog, Pine Island, Man O' War..... Give your horses an extra carrot tonight.

Yep, made me cry. I was so hoping that he would pull through all of this. He seemed to have such a strong will to live. A truly beautiful animal!

It's amazing how this sweet horse touched so many lives. I know we were all rooting for him to make it. Made me sad too ..........

My best friend's grandaughter is a horse person and she got to visit Barbaro because she knows the people who took care of him. What stories she came back with.

I was bummed too. They are the most awesome animals, but when they have a leg injury, it is nearly impossible to nurse them back.

So very sad. We all hoped that his strength and will would bring him thru, but his poor feet ended up doing him in. So sad.

What bothers me the most is that they are breeding race horses to have smaller bones, in the interest of speed, which leads to more likelihood of tragedies like Barbaro. It's happening too often - Barbaro just happened to capture the hearts and minds of so many of us in the Kentucky Derby. But there have been many similar tragedies in the last several years. Usually they just shoot the horse on the spot (Barbaro was an exception only because his jockey jumped off and stopped the horse immediately, a rarely feasible feat!)

I'm not a PETA-radical type, but I think it's reasonable to insist that some standards put in place to discourage the practice of breeding for speed at the expense of strong bones in race horses.

    It's just so sad.

Being the horsewoman that I am, it broke my heart when they had to put Barbaro down. Still sad about it, cause he was a beautiful race horse.

I want to dispell any myths. Racehorses are not being bred to have smaller bones. Some horses are good breeders. Distorted Humor is one of them. They are pure bred thoroughbreds. And Barbaro would have made a great stud - thats one of the reasons they tried to save him.
