What crazy weather we are having - but it is nice to be inside with a hot cup of tea. A relaxing weekend to you all.
-
I will only be there Tues Wed Thurs of that week so if any of those days work... that is great if not I'll "see" ya all on the blog...Sounds like there is not any day that all can make it...:(
BJ you are right about the kids growing up too fast...we have one son and he has four boys...the oldest is 6, then a 4 year old and during my chemo treatments they had twin boys...(Oct. 09)...It definitely lifted my spirits during that time but I was not able to help out as much then but I'm making up for it now and lovin it!
Jackie I'm assuming you are having good weather in your neck of the woods since it is nice here and we are not that far away.
-
I drove to the soccer tournament this morning at 7am in such fog, passed a few accidents, the traffic lights couldn't be seen until you were practically on top of them. Had the 8am game, went home for a break until the 4pm game, with this crazy weather, this game has been rescheduled to 12:30pm tomorrow. Good thing I actually enjoy watching soccer! And the other team is so appreciative that my daughter was willing to help out... they have a small team with no subs, which means a solid sixty minutes of running for ten year olds without a break. That's a bit too much for a four game tournament weekend.
My son got his acceptance letter from the Chicago Youth Symphony this week... he is very excited, he is moving up a level in the orchestra, we are so excited for him! Kind of fun, it will be his first experience playing with a full symphonic orchestra, rather than string only. Opens up a whole new type of repertoire.
As for lunch, I can do Tuesday or Wednesday that week. I have an idea if anyone thinks it is fun and likes Italian. Bucca di Beppo is at the Yorktown mall... it's basic Southern Italian food, quite good, moderatly priced. The fun part is that with a decent sized group, we can get the very large round table in the Pope room.... if you haven't seen it, this room has every cheesy Pope souvenir you can get (the restaurant specializes in kitschy Italian decorations... reminds me of my childhood, but let's not go there....;-). But nice with a group this size that we can sit at one table, I think it seats something like 15 people? Just a suggestion, I'm up for anything. Harry Caray's in the Westin is really great, but a bit pricey.
Rads is going well, honestly am having no noticeable side effects yet... skin is a little bit pink but that's it. Hope it stays that way, I just passed the half way mark. I'm lucky in that the cancer care center is across the street from work, I can drop my kids at school at 7:50am, be waiting for the techs to take me back a few minutes early for my 8:15am appt, then be at my desk by 8:45.
I have some fuzz on my head! And my eyebrows are growing back, I am started to feel some optimism that I can ditch the wig and the eyebrow pencil in about a month.
-
I want to see LisaMom's fuzz, so plan on me to be at lunch when she can come. Where we go is not a bit important. to me ....just touching bases is good. I will go anywhere including a park with a picnic basket! Getting so many women together, with all that they carry (work, family, health, etc) is hard so let's work on what is easy for Nana!
Oh, my darling Elf, so happy I was to hear from you.
Susan
-
Thanks Zap....but I'm willing to travel if necessary. It would be easier for me at the motel but I understand Yorktown is close as well...so just someone please pick a time and date....I just want to meet as many of you as possible)
It is a beautiful day here...and we will be BBQ ing at Noon....small group ...but lots of good food and
thankful for those who have served in the military that have fought for our freedom!
-
ATeamNana- Perhaps you could pick one day and we'll see who can go as you are the guest of honor?
Lisa- Pope room! Hah, I had my girls Confirmation lunches in that room.
Hi Elf!
Have a wonderful day all, stay cool...

-
My preference would be wednesday...anytime between 11 - 2 ....would work fine.
I'm really rather quiet so dont' wanna cause too much fuss....my son is really surprised I am even making this attempt to connect and meet with people I have only met on this site. (he is glad I am...just surprised) He on the other hand is very outgoing and does not know a stranger...he is a women's volleyball head coach at the College here in town. (Where I work also)
If Harey Carey's is too expensive ...any suggestions for another place near the hotel is great. I really do not care where we go. I have not been to any of the places so I'm game for any of it!
-
Wednesday is out for eating but maybe I could make it there by 1. Depends how long the dentist takes. -
Lago...is Tues or thursday better...We leave thursday but I don't think we will leave before lunch time...
Hate for you not to be able to eat.:)
-
Both are better for me. I can't eat anyway on Wednesday so no big deal. I just want to be sure you will all still be there when I show up after my dentist appointment. I assume the day after a colonscopy you are fine right?
As much as I love to eat you really don't think I come for the food. I'm with Susan on this. It's all about getting together. Lets see what works for the majority.

I'm available any of those days. Anyplace is fine with me...
Hope you all had a nice holiday today. Back later.
-
Which week in June?
-
June 14 15 16 ....is when I will be in Lombard....hope to meet as many of you as possible..
-
Hi everyone.....it has been a calm quiet warn day here. We had our get-together yesterday and it was nice. Will wonders never cease.....my BIL Dave wants my Italian Spaghetti Salad recipe which is a very simple one and Bj, my step-son Scott took the Frosted Salad ( and like you I used the pink lemonade this time and it was better.....and 1/4 cup powdered sugar recipe home with him as they do a lot of cook-outs there in S. Dakota. Yum !!!
Lots of leftovers here and that is always nice to get a day or two where cooking can be on the light side for a bit.
I hope the weather got better for everyone. It sounded fairly harsh. Saying hi to all .....
Hope you are getting well settled now Elf. You are missed.
Our temps. are at 81 now, but was 92 earlier. A little on the toasty side but we are feeling great now. Haven't needed the air out here in the woods and I'm sure glad for that.
Hope you all had a wonderful day and a relaxing evening.
Hugs, Jackie
p.s. Glad you are enjoying your book Zap. It is right up my alley or should I say millennium doorway.

Okay, I am going to be a leader! I know nothibg about Lombard but the internet is giving me some leads on some places. Let's do Weber's Grill on that Thursday at 12:30. I can pick you up, Nana! Lago, you can eat your heart out. Webers offers something for everyone. I have no clue where itl is, but I can pull it together by then. Laura, so cool you can join us! I hope Bj can too! It is all good.
-
Oh wait I screwed up. Thursday is colonoscopy. That's OK. Keep it Thursday. Seems more folks can make Thursday. I'll hopefully catch you guys the next time. I'm having trouble keeping all these appointments that have been rescheduled straight. I can't even blame it on chemo-brain. I never got it.

Just had to share:
THE JARS!
A demonstration was made by placing two identical jars,
from the same factory, made from the same material, and
that held the same amount on a table. Then he turned one
of them over and out oozed honey! Next he turned over
the other one and it spilled out vinegar! When a jar is
upset, whatever is in it comes out. What if someone
tipped you over today? What would flow out? Would
you reveal the 'honey' of grace and patience, or the
'vinegar' of anger and sarcasm? The one who upsets
you may be just looking for some honey..."

We'll never find a day that works for everyone, but unfortunately Thursday's are out for me unless my 1pm meeting is rescheduled. Enjoy -- Weber Grill is a good choice Susan! I'll plan to come if my Thursday gets rearranged.
Lisa

Oh dear! Lisa, I would so love to see you and talk about your kids. I feel like I did not get a good chance to visit at the Holiday Lunch. Since Lago is now unable to really come at all, let's switch back to Tuesday as that works for you or Wednesday (but frankly I cannot remember who can do what when). I am free both days and as I say I would to meet you. This has been a bit tougher than usual but let's make it work.
-
Tuesday works for me! I have Herceptin 1st thing in the morning (8am). I can leave from there. Very easy to get onto 290. Of course if I pick up Char, she's not that far away.
Lunch menu at Weber, yum: linky
-
Tuesday would possibly work for me, but I will have a mid-afternoon tee time, unless we get rained out. Then, I would definitely be there. This would be my last chance to golf before my next exchange surgery on that Wednesday.
Hope everyone is happy that summer has finally arrived. I spent last summer going through chemo so I am prepared to make the most of this summer. My thoughts really go out to those in treatment.
So, was just thinking that one year ago today, my hair fell out from chemo. Not a fun day to really celebrate, but I am now 9 months PFC and have a decent short hair style that many people seem to think suits me well. Of course, they are probably just being nice, but I'll take it. Have to admit though, that I am enjoying it with this hot, humid weather and have gotten to not really care how much it curts anymore.
" -
Tuesday works for me too, and glad it looks like a good day for many. It will be impossible to find a good day for everyone, I just got finished scheduling our soccer team dinner for only seven families.... no way to accommodate everyone's schedule. Looking forward to connecting with everyone; at the holiday luncheon my diagnosis was still a blur to me, and while I remember meeting many, I was still feeling shell shocked from the whole thing, and am in much better shape to be socially capable this time around!
-
Good! I had to go back and fix all my typos. I have a terribe head cold (always I get sick from the airplane) and my brain is sloppy! Glad we got a day.
-
Joan, I love your picture! You look so good, gal!
Susan, I'm so glad you enjoyed your trip with your DD. It's not unusual for cats to snub you and "make you pay" for leaving them at home. I was amazed at Echo, our shelter kitty when we got back this weekend. She was just the opposite. She followed us from room to room. My older cat would have given us the "cold shoulder, too" so that was what we were expecting. Evidently she got lonesome!
We had a great time with the grandkids this weekend. I got to see both of the older boys play soccer and we played lots of games and outdoor activities. The weather there was beautiful all weekend. I was long overdue for a visit! :-)
It sounds like everyone is doing well and that you have your lunch day established so you can meet Nana. That is so great!
I'll be back later.
Rita
