I switched from clonodine to gabapentin two months ago and have found a marked decrease in the number and especially the intensity! Worked for me. I have 3 more years of tamoxifen and almost went off because of the hot flashes.

I started Effexor about a month ago. Not had a hot flash at night or headache since and I even have more energy. the hot flashes I still get during the day are a lot less intense and I only get maybe one a day. I can even drink wine again without having a meltdown from them.

Gabapentin has helped me too with hot flashes, although I am going to ask the onc at Feb. visit to increase dose, as I think 100mg 3x/day is losing it's effectiveness.

From reading the hormone thread, most of the Gabapentin ladies are taking 300mg 2x/day or 300mg 3x/day.

    Hi Jinky,
I've been taking the catapress patch (clonodine)for about a half year for high blood pressure and Reflex Sympathetic
Dystrophy (RSD). I noticed some relief from the hot flashes immediately at 0.1. My Doc increased it to 0.2 and
it made a really significant difference. The few I get now are no longer disabling. I went from getting them every half hour to 3 a day.

I take effexor anyway but I guess I was in the third it doesn't affect.

Gabapentin (neurontin) made me too dizzy and sleepy to function, seriously affected my balance. But it does work.
Just be aware if you get the side effects its the medicine!

Really its just a matter of finding what works best for you with the minimum of side effects. Its always a balancing act.

    Good Luck
    Susie
