My Dexa showed that I have some bone loss in my spine and wants me to take Fosamax. Does anyone, here, use Fosamx?
I read that women who have had rads or chemo have a greater
chance of bone necrosis of the jaw. I had chemo, but that was 17 years, ago.

    Hi starz,

After taking Arimidex for a year my bone density was at the osteopenia stage.  I'm small, thin, and my grandma had osteoporosis, so I was at high risk anyway, but having a hysterectomy and Arimidex speeded up the bone loss.

My Dr has had me on Fosomax (the insurance just switched me to the generic equivalent) for 1 1/2 years, and I just had a Dexa in Feb that showed significant bone gain!  My Dr also has me take 1200mg of calcium @ day.

There is a problem with Fosomax and dental work.  My dentist said that if you have tooth decay, the jaw bone is more likely to deteriorate around the root if you need an extraction.  So keep up the dental appt and cleaning!

You might get more responses to your question if you post in the Getting through treatment or Hormonal Treatment sections.
