my mom has stage 4 HER-2 HELP

My mother was diagnosed with brest cancer about august. She had her right breast removed and tests were administered to see if the surgery was a success.Baaaad news... cancer in the spine and liver. I have a mother that is very gentle and kind, not to mention a quest to live! Her stage of cancer at this time is 4 but she isn't telling my sister or I (I feel) the whole truth about her condition. She is administered chemo once a week for 3 weeks with herception and then on the 4th week she recieves just herception. This is going on for 3 more rounds. Does this treatment work on women this late in the cancer? Does my mom have a chance? grannygoins6875@aol.com

    Yes your Mom has a chance! There are many women, myself included who have metastasized cancer which is being treated like a chronic disease. I have bone mets in my left hip and my spine; and a nodule near my lung. I go for weekly herceptin treatments, and then a chemo drug is added in when needed.

    You might want to check out the "Recurrence and Metastatic Disease" discussion on this board. There you will find many women with similar diagnosis to help.

    Thank you so much! Mom says she needs every prayer. My sister and I decided to donate our hair to Locks Of Love before Thanksgiving and shave what was left so that our mom wouldn't feel so out of sorts during the holidays... when my 19 year old daughter decided to join us in the unconditional support! BUT that wasn't all... my sisters 14 year old set of twins did the same. We all love our mom so very much and are willing to go to any length to understand the fight my mother has in front of her so with that I thank you again for pointing us in a direction to better educate us. I will remember you in my prayers from now on...along with the others and their families who fight this disease. Good-luck and God bless.

    So sorry your mom is joining our group. There are definetly stage 4 ladies living long lives. - It is just considered a chronic disease. - Lot's of good treatments and more being discovered every year.

    Your mom is lucky to have such a supportive and loving family. Donating to locks of love and shaving your heads is a wonderful way to show your mom support and make this disease "less lonely" for her.
