Alternative therapies?

Options

My wife and I are dealing with meta BC to the lungs. We're on our 5th chemo line after 2 years. Has anyone had any success with alternative therapies (i.e. protocel, vitamin c infusion, etc.) We're scared.

ysr: Im not good at Alternative. Im interested, but Im not good at it.

I just wanted to send hugs to both you and your wife. 5 years with chemo - thats hard. There are so many here who are living with lung mets. Tell us more about you and your wife.

Get scared - cry your heart out - then get angry and fight.

I have not had any personal experience with alternative cures for cancer. I do know that there has been a few good results with vitamin C given in an IV. I don't know where you are located, but I would start with the Cancer Treatment Centers of America. www.cancercenter.com They specialize in impossible cases, and they use many alternative treatments in addition to traditional medicine. I believe that they would know about vitamin C, for example.

Good luck to you and your wife. This is an ugly disease--I hope they can beat it soon.

There is a gentleman that has written a testimonial about lung cancer on the NCD website. He put his full name and address on it so I called him. He claims he's had great success. How much you can believe is the most difficult question. This patient claimed he was Stage 4 and sent home to get his affairs in order. Worth giving him a call.
I'm also taking NCD but my success is still very very debateable. Good Luck

NCD is Natural Cellular Defense or Liquid Zeolite. Please understand I'm not endorsing this product but I have talked to one person who claims they have cancer and are taking it. He has asbestos in both lungs and claims he'll always keep getting tumors and NCD is the only thing that is keeping him alive.

You could also try posting to the Amazon group, who concentrate on alternative therapies. Google Breast Cancer Choices to get to them.

I decided to go to an alternative clinic/naturopathic after treatment and when I started tamox. A few tests later and found out that my immune system was almost depleted etc. etc. Had Meyers Coctail ( iv) and vit B 12 shots...after 12 treatments was able to sleep without meds and was almost anxiety free. Look it up on the net...very interesting

I can't speak about it personally but I just ordered this book from Amazon.com called With the Help of Our Friends from France: Stabilizing And Living With Advanced Breast Cancer by Carol Silverander. She had extensive liver mets and has been living with them for five years using conventional chemo and alternative therapies that she gets from a dr. in France. There is a dr. in Idaho now doing the same treatments. I can't remember where I heard about the book, if it was on this board but it's very interesting.

If you don't already have it, get the book Cancer, Step Outside the Box. It's by Ty Bollinger. You can email him too. He has a website. He writes about proven treatments and clinics and hospitals he thinks are very good. I have two of these books, one for me and one for me to loan out. God Bless!

I'm getting closer and closer to having to make a decision regarding hormone therapy and I've been reading Bob Arnot's Breast Cancer Prevention Diet with some interest. Especially about being able to lower the amount of available estrogen through diet. Anyone have an experience with trying this? Did it actually lower your estrogen?

I would like to think Dr. Bob Arnot's Breast Cancer Prevention diet at least slowed my hormone positive breast cancer. I have been on the diet for 8 yrs. My surgeon said my tumor was probably growing for 2-8yrs before dx. I never had my hormones tested while on the diet. We do have a strong family breast ca hx, so I feel no matter what I did maybe, it wouldn't have made a difference. Have also always stayed within a healthy body wt and stayed active, not that those things necessarily make any difference, either. - I know when the anesthesiologist questioned me before my surgery, " Now your having bilateral mast today?" - I said, "Yeah, this is what I get for healthy living!!!"LOL

Seriously, I do believe this diet is a good compliment to breast cancer prevention/treatment and I continue to eat this way, but don't know if i'd count on it alone. - Only my opinion. I am 48 and premeno, currently taking zolodex shots and tamoxafin.

    Good luck with your decision.

Julie...I know exactly how you felt. I had my segmented mastectomy 6 weeks after I rowed 100 miles in an endurance kayak race...the second oldest female to ever complete it. I was on top of the world!!!! Then.....fortunately mine was caught very early and in a very early stage...hormone receptive...I took hormones for 11 years...2 of my doctors are on the fence about whether I need to risk the side effects of hormone replacement...tomorrow is my last rad. I have had the gene test done also and I'm negative. I'm meeting with a new oncologist that comes highly recommended by the nurses and techs at my hospital...the one I have now is not patient friendly and barely contains a "sigh" when I ask questions. I'm leaning toward having my estrogen tested; really work diet wise on getting the level down...have it retested in 6 months. And then see. Thanks for your input...best wishes!

This is my first post. I am not skeptic to alternative therapies. Resources in breastcancer.org is very scientific. This page has academic information about causes and new treatments: http://homepage.mac.com/penagoscorzo/cancer_treatment/cancer/

    I like to rebirth.

There are all kinds of alternative therapies out there ladies and gentlemen. Personally I would focus on the relaxation modalities because destressing may be one of the strongest defenses against cancer and its rate of growth. The practice I am most familiar with is Usui Reiki which is a form of hands on healing that puts the mind into the alpha state which is the state just before dozing off to sleep. It is the state that we heal best in and has even been proven scientifically to increase the production of red blood cells which is so important for chemo patients. It supports our immune systems and is comforting and non-invasive. Being a traditionalist, I teach and treat clients with Traditional Usui Reiki. I would recommend it highly and am happy to direct those interested in information on this ancient healing practice. It works, it settles the body, mind and spirit. Now, don't we all need that? Love and light to all...

Ladies, I was determined go make her bsck. Hopefully I didn't wait to long> NCD is not what it is cracked up to be. Just finished 10 rounds of radiation and on my 4 Chemo. I still plan on beating it so time will tell.

    Hi, Sherry:
Is detoxing (bath, etc.) advisable while doing chemo? Or am I supposed to keep the chemo in my system for awhile?
Amd is there anything that will help a chronic lethal headache as a result of the chemo? Thanks, I am having a seriously rough time.
